Tremendous 2015 Reds at great prices. Save 15% for the next 48 hours...

I am just back from my travels in Europe. One of the many highlights was a visit to Domaine Marchand-Grillot and a rather extravagant tasting of 2015's, 2016's and older wines.

I discovered this domaine last year and was incredibly impressed by the style and character of the wines. Whilst the domaine has Premier Crus and the Grand Cru Ruchottes-Chambertin, it was the Gevrey-Chambertin lieut-dits that made my decision to import them easy.

I do not recall ever tasting a lineup of single vineyard Gevrey Villages reds this classy. The wines all have a unique character. They are not tannic, rustic or earthy. They are downright stylish. And super to drink.

Just to confirm my thoughts from past tastings and my visit, I opened four bottles over the weekend "for evaluation". At around $100 a bottle for famous commune reds from 2015 these are a bargain.

I'd love everyone to try the wines so for the next 48 hours these, and the complete range of Marchand-Grillot wines, are on special less 15%. Mixed cases welcome.

Darren Harris: The most elegant of the Gevrey lieu-dits. Grown on sandy soil below the village this wine is a little lighter in colour and weight. It too is layered and aromatic, more feminine than the other Gevreys in the portfolio. With air the wine slowly blossomed and the hidden complexities in the wine began to show: red fruits, violets, minerals. One to watch! It certainly shows that Villages Gevrey does not need to be rustic or tannic.

Gevrey-Chambertin En Songe 2015
Normally $116.95
Special $99.50

marchand-grillot en songe label Darren Harris: 30% new oak. Nose of black cherry, a touch of earth and some mineral notes. Terrific extract which is lively and intense but not heavy. Some creamy oak adds texture to what is already an deep and complex Villages wine. This is very smart and also punches above its weight.
Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Velle 2015
Normally $116.95
Special $99.50
45 bottles available

marchand-grillot Au velle label Darren Harris:
20% whole bunch in 2015. Deep colour. An aromatic nose of cherry, raspberry and a hint of earth. On the palate there is more and a touch of graphite. The layers unravel and the subtleties come in waves as the wine sits in the glass. Light on its feet with perfect intensity and sublime balance. Benchmark Villages wines from any commune. My pick of the lieu-dits at both the domaine tasting and Australian tasting. I think this is superb.
Gevrey-Chambertin En Creot 2015
Normally $124.95
Special $105.95
21 bottles available

marchand-grillot creot label Darren Harris:
From the Brochon side. This is the darkest and deepest of the four regular lieu-dits. Less nuanced than Aux Velle but this is balanced by a sense of real depth and weight - old vines and low cropping. Black-red fruits, detailed and long. Brooding. Mineral. I like the power and intensity very much.

This is the big gun in the Au Pied du Mont chauve portfolio. Their Les Demoiselles lies directly alongside Montrachet. Part of the vineyard was reclassified as Montrachet but some remains as a very special Premier Cru.
There are only a few makers of this vineyard and we are very fortunate to have one in our portfolio.
Treat yourself! This is a very special bottle.
