Our Au Pied du Mont Chauve Burgundies have arrived. There is not much left and for those who have not tasted the wines we present a special offer for today. All wines in stock are available at a 15% discount.

The Picard family own the beautiful Chateau de Chassagne-Montrachet and its magnificent vaulted 11th and 14th century cellars. The domaine is run by Francine Picard, who's grandfather, wine merchant Louis Felix, set the wheels in motion in the 1950's. Francine's father Michel started to buy vineyards in the 1970's and in 1997 he purchased the dilapidated chateau.

An extensive, and no doubt expensive, renovation ensued and today it is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Cote d'Or. When I visited in April, further upgrades were being carried out and wine lovers may visit, taste and even stay at the chateau.

The domaine owns 35 hectares in the Cote de Beaune including some very fine vineyards in Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet.

Pied du Mont Chauve Vergers label
Darren Harris: On the same elevation as Les Caillerets but at the Puligny end of the commune, the stony soil of Les Vergers produces a wine of style. The 2015 from Au Pied du Mont Chauve offers up a gorgeous nose of white stone fruit, pears and wet stones. The cuvee saw no new oak and this is rewarded with a purity and freshness of aroma. The palate has terrific texture, gently mouthfilling but with great finesse. The long finish is driven by tangy acidity. For me, the top Chassagne Premier Cru at the domaine in 2015.

Au Pied du Mont Chauve Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne 2014
Normally $173.95
Special $147.85

Pied du Mont Chauve Garrene mood Darren Harris: From 70+ year old vines. Seven barrels in 2014. After the Chassagne Premier Crus this is a real change of pace. And for me a big step up in quality. Garrene is high on the hill. It is cooler here and it shows in the wine. Refined nose of white flowers, grapefruit and pear. The creamy richness of the old vines are balanced by minerals, citrus and a salty tang. I like the way the wine is concentrated but not heavy or too ripe. In fact you could call it restrained - the finish is long, fine and saline leaving the palate sensing a wine of freshness and elegance

Pied du Mont Chauve Clos St-Jean mood Jancis Robinson:
On red sandstone. 10% new oak.
Slightly elusive, teasing nose that reminds me a little of acacia blossom so dry that rubs to yellow dust between the fingers. Real forward attack on the palate - everything gathered into a crossbow arrow of powerful flavour. Masses of mouthwatering acidity. Almost as if it was a glass of liquid lime-soaked white marble. Quite addictive! 17.5 Points

Au Pied du Mont Chauve's vines are right alongside its big brother.
