A trip to Burgundy always turns up some exciting new domaines. This year has been no exception and we have added some terrific new producers to our portfolio.
Domaine Marchand-Grillot was one of the latest. I tasted the 2015's (again) and 2016's at the domaine last week. They are just super wines.

marchand-grillot petit chapelle label Jacques Marchand is the seventh generation of his family to be involved in wine. Located in Gevrey-Chambertin this domaine owns an exciting range of vineyards. Their 9 hectares are spread across 47 different plots! In addition to Premier and Grand Cru holdings the domaine is one the few to bottle a selection marchand-grillot perrier label of lieu-dits. It was these wines that I found particularly exciting as today the general practice is to blend these vineyards into a generic wine.

The 2015's from the domaine are extremely good wines and the opportunity to explore the 7 different Gevreys they produce should not be missed. And on top of that we have the Ruchottes- marchand-grillot en songe label Chambertin. The domaine owns a minute 0.08 of a hectare making this a very rare bottle!
Like many of my discoveries there are not a lot of tasting notes available. Burghound has only one note for the domaine and if you are a subscriber you should take the time to read it. It is a very good note for a lieu-dit from marchand-grillot Au velle label 2009. It sums up the style and quality I experienced here.
It is worth noting that Marchand-Grillot were selected by UNESCO to supply the wines of Gevrey-Chambertin for the process of adding Burgundy to the cultural world heritage list.
Some months ago a group of us tasted through the full range of wines from the domaine. It is rare to see so many quality wines with individual character in one tasting. I had previously tasted the wines at the domaine in March this year and my notes were virtually identical. I have added them to our website.
If you are a fan of Gevrey-Chambertin and love the intricacies of the Burgundian vineyards this is a new domaine you should not miss. Try a range of the lieu-dits. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. These are terroir driven wines at their best.
For the next week we offer the wines at a 15% discount.

Magnien Ruchottes Label NV
Domaine Henri Magnien 2015 Burgundies
Founded in 1987 and located in Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine Henri Magnien is a tiny estate of just 6 hectares.

But what a selection of vineyards the domaine has! Their Gevrey Premier Crus are Lavaux St-Jacques, Estournelles St-Jacques, Les Cazetiers and Les Champeaux. They also own a tiny 0.16 hectare slice of Ruchottes-Chambertin, one of only 8 owners.

This is a genuine "undiscovered" producer making some exceptional wines, albeit in very small volumes. There are not a lot of reviews from the English-speaking press but if you search the French sites and wine blogs you will find some excellent comments about just how exciting the wines are.

I tasted the 2014's at the Grand Jours de Bourgogne last year and immediately decided to import them.

Our 2015's have arrived and for the next week we offer the wines at a 15% discount.

There are some great comparisons to be made including Ruchottes-Chambertin.
