Beautiful Bottles of Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 1989

Chazans Chambolle 1989 Header
Lovely bottles soon to enjoy their 30th birthday...

Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes has traditionally been considered the top Premier Cru of the commune after Les Amoureuses. There are two factors for this. Firstly it is quite a large vineyard so the wines were available from top makers. Secondly, it is on the same contours as Les Amoureuses with gentle slope assisting drainage.
Domaine Chazans belongs to the Zibetti family. They own some great vineyards in Chambolle-Musigny. Today, the new generation has decided to sell their grapes rather than bottle them at the domaine. The main recipient is Faiveley whose Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes incorporates Domaine Chazans grapes.
I should point out that the Faiveley Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2015 sells for almost as much as this 28 year old bottling!

One Part of Montrachet Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchots Dessus 2015
The Premier Cru BlanchotsDessus adjoins Montrachet on the southern end. The underlying rock is limestone and marble and is very similar to that of Criots-Batard-Montrachet. Jasper Morris MW says "this can be a prime site" and indeed in the past is was certainly considered to be. Dr Jules Lavalle's classification of 1855 included BlanchotsDessus as part of Montrachet. The Comite d'Agriculture classification of 1861 also incorporated Blanchots-Dessus within Montrachet. In 1920-21 when the borders of Montrachet were officially defined BlanchotsDessus was excluded. There is no doubt that the vineyard can produce exceptional wines. Steen Ohman, winehog.org says "One could argue that Blanchots Dessus in the best areas can match Criot Batard-Montrachet, but not the mighty Montrachet terroir." It is, however, priced at a 1er Cru level - a fraction of its Grand Cru neighbours and for lovers of top White Burgundy the wine represents something very special.
Burghound: (from a miniscule .064 ha parcel of 25+ year old vines; Blanchots-Dessus abuts Montrachet on its southern end). This is firmly reduced today though my sense is that it will likely progressively dissipate with age. Otherwise there is more size, weight and muscle to the beautifully concentrated big-bodied flavors that are a bit less mineral-driven on the slightly more complex finish. This robust effort isn't refined but it is impressive. A Sweet Spot Wine. 2023+. 92 Points
