Super New Cuvee for 2015 - Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Fairendes

The first vintage of a serious new Premier Cru...

Many of you will be familiar with the great value White Burgundies of Domaine Fernand and Laurent Pillot. This small domaine comprises just 15 hectares of vines located primarily in Chassagne-Montrachet. In addition to the vines in Chassagne the domaine has holdings in Pommard and Volnay as a result of of the marriage of Laurent to Marie-Anne. Despite the small size of the domaine their holdings include many of Chassagne-Montrachet's best Premier Cru sites.

For 2015 the domaine has introduced two new wines - Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenes and Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Fairendes.

Whilst in Burgundy recently I tasted all of the Pillot 2015's. The whites were fresh and delicious and the reds were something of a revelation. I didn't realize Laurent made such a range and did so at such high level.

But it was the new white cuvee 1er Cru Les Fairendes that really impressed me. Les Fairendes is a climat in Morgeots. It is regarded as the finest part of the appellation for whites producing a wine of delicacy and minerality.

In the past Laurent Pillot has incorporated his parcel into his Morgeots bottling but in 2015 the quality was such that he has bottled Les Fairendes separately. And what a great decision it was!

Super value for a top Premier Cru White Burgundy.

Fernand and Laurent Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Fairendes 2015
Normally $131.50
Pre Arrival Price $111.95

Pillot Fairendes Label First vintage of this wine. From very old vines in the best part of Morgeots. More floral on the nose than the previous Premier Crus with white flowers and citrus. The palate is intense but quite delicate, less fat than the other wines and with more acidity on the finish. The standout Chassagne Premier Cru for me today. I understand why Laurent chose to bottle this parcel separately.

Few Premier Cru white Burgundies are available at this sort of price today. To view and order the wine on our website click here.

Don't miss the full range of 2015 White Burgundies from this domaine. They are all extraordinarily well priced - Premier Crus start at just over $100 - that is a steal! All wines are available at Pre Arrival Prices which save you 15%. To view the full range of Fernand and Laurent Pillot wines available click here.

morey-coffinet dent label
Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Dent de Chien 2015
6 bottles left
There is a little vineyard that sits above the Grand Cru Montrachet. It is called Dent de Chien (dog's tooth) named after sharp rocks that dot the soil. White Burgundy lovers know this as a site that produces incredible wines, something of a mini-Montrachet. Almost a century ago the vineyard was considered part of Montrachet and over the ensuing years parts of it have been re-incorporated. Jasper Morris MW says "Some comparisons with Chevalier-Montrachet can be made, given the siting and style of the vineyard."

There are very few makers of this vineyard but we happen to have one in our portfolio - Domaine Morey-Coffinet.

We have 6 bottles of this rarity available. In stock now.

Gauby Muntada Label
Domaine Gauby Cotes du Roussillon Muntada 2011
4 bottles left
Wine Advocate - Jeb Dunnuck: Gauby's 2011 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Muntada, which comes from ancient, pre-phylloxera Grenache (45%), Carignan (35% and vines over 120 years in age) and Syrah (20%) vines, offers a deep, complex and almost distilled essence of wild herbs, blackcurrants, tar, licorice, sage brush and leather on the nose. There's no makeup here, and what you get is the raw essence of the Roussillon. Spending 30 months in a combination of large and small barrels, it is full-bodied and rich, yet very focused and tight, with a firm, structured core. It will need 2-3 years of bottle age to round into form, yet will have upwards of 20 years, if not more, of total longevity. 95+ Points
