24 extra Bottles of the hard-to-find Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Petits Monts 2015

Sirugue Petits Monts 2015 Header
A "Mini Richebourg" for those who fancy the hard-to-find...
We sold out of this in a flash two weeks ago. We have 24 additional bottles for those who act quickly
Vosne-Romanee has a wonderful range of Premier vineyards clustered around the Grand Crus. Some we do see such as Les Malconsorts, Les Suchots, Aux Brulees and Les Beaux Monts. But there are a few I would love to have in our portfolio that I have found hard to track down. These include Les Gaudichots, Aux Reignots and today's offering - Les Petits Monts.

Les Petits Monts - the little mounts - lies immediately above Richebourg, sandwiched between Cros Parantoux and Aux Reignots. Jasper Morris says "it makes a slightly lighter version of it (Richebourg) and can be absolutely beautiful...". That is my experience too.

Friday night I purchased an additional 24 bottles of the 2015 from Domaine Robert Sirugue.
Domaine Robert Sirugue is a relatively unknown producer in Vosne-Romanee. I have tasted the wines a number of times but have never been able to offer them. Whilst the name Sirugue may be relatively unknown to many, the origin of the Domaine is not ... as the Sirugue domaine at least partly originates from the Jayer family.

Steen Ohman, winehog.org says "The Jayer family was large and quite many of the Domaine in Vosne are owned by families somehow related to the Jayer family ... one could mention producers like Grivot, Tremblay, Georges Noellat, Michel Noellat, Cacheaux, Jayer-Gilles, Emmanuel Rouget ... The Sirugue domaine belongs to the Jean Francois Jayer (1869 - ?) part of the Jayer family. Jean Francois Jayer was the oldest brother of Eugene Louis Jayer (1884 - ?) - the father of Henri Jayer (1922 - 2006).

Jean Francois Jayer was married to Jeanne Marchand (1870 - 1953) and the couple had two children - a son Louis and a daughter Jeanne. The son Louis had two daughters Jacqueline and Yvonne - where Yvonne was married to Jean Grivot - the father of Etienne Grivot of Domaine Grivot in Vosne-Romanee.
The daughter Jeanne married a Sirugue - thus introducing the name Sirugue into the "Jayer" family. The couple had a daughter, Marthe, who was married to a Lamadon, a daughter Suzanne (1922 - 2010) who was married to Francois Gerbet and lastly a son Robert (1934 - ), who is the father of the current management - Marie-France Wilmotte and her brother Jean-Louis Sirugue."

Complicated - yes.
Today, Domaine Sirugue own more than 11 hectares of vines including the second largest holding of Les Petits Monts (which can't be too big as the entire vineyard is only 3.67 hectares in size.

We offer the Petits Monts and the new Chambolle-Musigny Les Mombies at our usual 15% Pre Arrival Discount. Be quick, with only 24 bottles of each available they won't last long.

Sirugue Petits Monts
Sorry, I do not have any tasting notes for this wine. Les Petits Monts typically shows lifted aromas of spice and lavender mixed with black cherry and a hint of cassis. The palate is full but poised, with supple tannins and a refreshing race that supports the palate without defining it.

You may be interested to know that the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti own a parcel of Les Petits Monts which they sell off in bulk.

Sirugue Mombies label A rarely seen lieu-dit from Chambolle-Musigny. I am only aware of two producers - Domaine Chantal Lescure and this bottling from Domaine Robert Sirugue. I can't tell you much about the wine. Reviews of past vintages describe the wines as "A quintessential Chambolle" with red fruits and feminine character. If you are a Chambolle fan I am sure this is worth a try being from 2015.

Hubert Lignier Charmes Label
3 bottles of Hubert Lignier Charmes-Chambertin 2012
Wine Advocate: The 2012 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has a very complex, quite beguiling bouquet with raspberry preserve, sous-bois, rose petals and orange zest all emerging from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with razor-sharp tannins and superb delineation. This actually reminds me of one of Denis Bachelet's Charmes-Chambertin and the finish has an awesome amount of tension that leaves the mouth tingling long afterward. 97 Points

pied du mont chauve demoiselles mood

Au Pied du Mont Chauve Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Demoiselles 2015
Rare and desirable
Les Demoiselles is a 0.6 hectare white vineyard immediately to the right (north) of Montrachet. Here there are just three owners. Jasper Morris MW says "The tiny Puligny-Montrachet Les Demoiselles is both very rare and potentially of exceptional quality, so highly sought-after."

It is notably stony with a little more topsoil than Chevalier-Montrachet above. Indeed part of the vineyard owned by the powerful negociants Jadot and Latour was reclassified as Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru in the late 1930's (today, they still use the name Les Demoiselles on their labels).

The Au Pied du Mont Chauve vines were originally owned by Bernard Colin and were purchased by the Picard family (owner of Au Pied du Mont Chauve and Chateau Chassagne-Montrachet) in 2007. Their parcel is in the prime location at the south end, right alongside Montrachet.
The domaine has one custom made 350 litre barrel to hold their entire production. That's 466 bottles for the world! This really is a special vineyard, not unlike Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Dent de Chien, except even harder to find. The location, rarity and quality justifies its premium over other Premier Crus.

To introduce the domaine to our portfolio we offer this rare wine at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount.

Darren Harris: Harvested early - 5 September. The 2015 is richer and more powerful on the nose than the 2014. The mid palate has higher glycerol and more texture. There is heaps of extract - Grand Cru weight. To be honest it doesn't remind me of any other Premier Cru - it has that pineapple character, which combined with multi layered complexity, immediately sends me 10 metres south to Montrachet. And more so than the higher acid 2014. The wine finishes long and fresh, surprisingly without oak influence (the domaine uses a specially made barrel for the vinification as the quantity produced is so small. It was not new in 2015). I was very impressed with all of the 2015 whites at this domaine but the wine that stands out, and even benefits from the character of the vintage, is Les Demoiselles.
