2016 Releases from Domaine Duroche - one of Tim Atkin MW's Top 25 Burgundy Producers of 2015

Late last week we received our allocation of wines from Domaine Duroche. We have a very small increase in allocation - but nothing like what I would have liked.
Duroche Champ Mood 2016 is going to be a terrific red vintage in the classic style and the small increase in allocation means we can make some of the top cuvees available to new clients.
We are too early for too much information on the 2016 Reds but Domaine Duroche are certainly now on the critics radar.  Tim Atkin MW rated the domaine in his Top 25 producers alongside DRC, Rousseau, Leroy, Georges Roumier and other legends for the 2015 vintage. It is a great achievement. You can read Steen Ohman,'s comments on the 2016's alongside.
This year we have the Gevrey-Chambertin and Gevrey-Chambertin Champ available as individual bottles.

For a handful of lucky clients we have some of the top wines available as part of the 2016 Duroche Red Parcel.

Steen Ohman,

The 2016s from Domaine Duroché are delightful wines, and as many other producers Pierre prefer the style of the 2016s to the style of the more weighty and powerful 2015s.

The 2016s here are actually so good, that Pierre thinks they might even be better than his 2015s - although its very early to compare these two vintages quality wise.

I tend to agree with Pierre in some cases, as most of the 2016s offer a tremendous intensity without having the slightly dense concentration of the riper 2015s. In the long run at least some of the 2015s will probably prevail - but to be honest they are quite evenly matched by the 2016s in many cases.

And with a preference for cooler years ... the 2016s looks very appealing indeed - and in the low end they do seem to have the edge - whereas the big terroirs handles the weight of the 2015 vintage better at this early stage.

Yields were quite low in 2016 - 40% below 2009 - but almost the same amount of wine produced as in 2015.

Lavaut St-Jacques 2016: This is another success with plenty of intensity and a cool balance. 30% lost here and with the low yield comes a fine concentration and weight - cool but otherwise comparable with the lovely 2015. The nose offer plenty of fruit - extrovert with notes of red and dark cherries, pomegranate and boysenberries. A tremendously vibrant and juicy wine with a core of layered deep and vibrant fruit. A wine with a nice tension and sensuality - Very Fine
 (93 - 94p).

Charmes-Chambertin 2016:The Charmes-Chambertin 2016 is a generous wine and with a better and cool balance than the velvet 2015. It's generous with a expressive nose brimming with red and dark berries - forest strawberries, raspberries, red cherries and a hint of rhubarbs and pomegranate. On the palate rich yet well structured and balanced - quite profound depth for a Charmes. It clearly match the 2015 - and I prefer the 2016 due to the fresh and vibrant tension in this wine. A Very Fine (93 - 94p) Charmes-Chambertin.
