Two Outstanding Chambertin from 2014 at Great Prices / 1930 Rivesaltes / 2001 Nacional!

Two Outstanding Chambertin Header
Two Fantastic Chambertins from 2014 - Just over $300 a bottle. That is seriously good value!
Chambertin is one of the great vineyards of Burgundy. It produces the most majestic and ageworthy wine of a commune studded with Grand Crus.
Named for a king, the wines live up to their regal title.
Such prestige usually comes at a price but we have managed to find two highly rated Chambertin to offer at a price that would make other producer's blush.

The Bertagna Chambertin was a Gold Medal Winner at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2017 continuing the rise of this domaine who have many great vineyards. We have just over a case left and being a new domaine for us we offer the wine at a very special price.
The Chambertin Clos de Beze is Domaine Drouhin-Laroze's top wine. We sold out of this quite some time ago but overnight I secured another 24 bottles. So until sold out you can buy them once again at our Pre Arrival Price.

Did you know: Chambertin Clos de Beze may be labelled as Chambertin. However, Chambertin may not be labelled as Chambertin Clos de Beze. Another of those little quirks of Burgundy!
Both wines are incredible buying for top Grand Crus from a super vintage. Both will cellar for 20 years, should you choose to wait that long. I can assure you that when the 2016's are announced prices will be considerably higher.

Bertagna Chambertin Label Decanter World Wine Awards 2017: Spicy and stout with a floral and spicy nose. Bags of red fruits and class on the silky palate. Very good indeed. No rush in the cellar. 95 Points and Gold Medal

Darren HarrisDeep red. Explosive aromatics. Minerals, spicy red fruits - currants, raspberry combined with cherry tartness. Longjing tea and earthy notes combine with smokey spice and a wild note to seduce the senses. Quality new oak is all but buried behind the opulent and powerful mid palate: very textured with a great sweetness of fruit that (at least initially) could be 2015. The fine tannins kick in towards the end to add line and drive. You could be forgiven for drinking this now but like all Chambertin it will surely close down and demand time in the cellar.

Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2014
Landed Price $389.95
Pre Arrival Price $331.50

Drouhin-Laroze Beze Label Tim Atkin MW: Some Clos de Bèze wines can be closed and unapproachable in their youth, but this isn't one of them. It's another complex, nuanced, all-too-drinkable Grand Cru from Caroline Drouhin. Fine tannins, notes of fresh tobacco and red cherry and strawberry fruit underscored by minerality. 2019-25. 96 Points

(from a parcel of 1.5 ha of vines planted in 1949; made with 25% whole clusters). Moderate wood frames exuberantly spicy and fresh red and dark berry fruit that carries ample Gevrey-style earth and underbrush influences. There is good size, weight and volume to the admirably intense broad-shouldered flavors that evidence a light minerality on the impressively long but not really austere finish. This is a big but harmonious effort that should age gracefully for years to come though note that it will likely need at least 10. 2029+. 91-93 Points

Sisqueilles rivesaltes 1930
Chateau Sisqueille Rivesaltes 1930

A remarkable wine from the ancient collections of Château Sisqueille, in Canet-en-Roussillon. Made from Grenache, this wine lay in the cellars for 80 years before being bottled in 2011.
Of course, 1930 was right at the start of the Great Depression. Times were very tough. Perhaps this is why this venerable wine was put down and forgotten for so long.
Rivesaltes is similar to Port in that they are fortified with neutral grape spirit to stop fermentation and thus retain some naturally occurring sugar. The alcohol content is typically somewhere between 15% and 20% and the wines drink more like an aged fortified desert wine.

The wines spend some time in oak during which they gain character and complexity and then are transferred to demi-muids, foudres or demijohns for long storage.

At 40, 50 or more years of age they are wines of great majesty, full of fig, raisin, dried flowers, citrus, nuts, and other intriguing aromas and flavours. The alcohol and sugar ensure that wines age for decades.
Boasting a beautiful ocher color, this prestigious Rivesaltes is accentuated by green reflections. Both intense and complex, the nose is defined by an alliance of roasting notes and dried fruits that resolve into a complex of spicy aromas imitating curry. Once in the mouth, an acidic freshness takes the front on the warm flavor and touches of tobacco and extinct wood linger at the bottom of the palate.

Remarkable value for a wine of this great age. A great bottle for a special occasion - perhaps Christmas Day?

Dow 2003 label

For the Love of Port: The epitome of an 'impenetrable appearance'. Rose petalsand violets waft from within the glass and the nose is just fantastic. Seemingly more fruity than typical for Dow, the palate provides powerful plum and cassis with a mouth feel that takes a minute to figure out. Everything is big here: the fruit is ripe and concentrated, the tannins are chewy and astringent, while the acidity acts as the life support system at its core. No reason to touch your Dow's unless the curiosity has forced your hand, otherwise leave these be - for 2-3 decades or more. I still say it is the best young Dow VP I have ever tasted and that is saying a lot!  95 Points

Wine Doctor:
Elegant. This has great style. Chocolate and smoke. Damsons. This has great purity. Beautiful weight and texture. Stunning finesse here. Wonderful balance. Superb, ripe tannins coated in a seamless layer of fruit. Great potential. Possibly wine of the vintage. 19+ Points
