La Justice - A little gem in Gevrey-Chambertin

Premier Cru Quality at a Villages Price!
The Gevrey lieu-dit La Justice is an interesting vineyard. In theory it is located on the wrong side of the road - east of the D974. However, a fault line allows a base of limestone to come into play and the sandy top soil allows excellent drainage of what is otherwise a flat site.

Albert Bichot says "La Justice" is a very old vineyard that is located in the middle and the best part of the alluvial fan, which combines all of the geological matter that has been moved down through the valley over the millennia. "La Justice" owes its name to the fact that these vineyards belonged to the Lord of Gevrey, the Abbot of Cluny, who had all of the power in this part of the land that had been given to him. Here, "justice" means "jurisdiction" from the Latin JURISDICTIO, or "the right to administer justice", and by extension, power, authority, control.
The vineyard has been highly regarded for a long time and is considered one of the finest lieu-dits in Gevrey-Chambertin. The wine produced is frequently of Premier Cru quality with dark fruit and mineral-infused flavours. The wine has an elegance with the power delivered by the best wines of Gevrey-Chambertin.
Domaine Felettig own parcels totalling 0.39 hectares which produces a wine that is always complex and interesting. John Gilman describes the wine as "quite clearly of premier cru quality". The Bichot wine is similarly appealing and also strikes me as being of Premier Cru quality.
The 2015 vintage is well on the way to selling out Pre Arrival. We still have some bottles left for the canny buyer.

Felettig Gevrey
Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin la Justice has a pastille-like purity on the nose, not complex but nicely focused with black cherries, blueberry and iodine scents gently unfolding, the 10% whole bunch deftly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannin. This is nicely focused with well-judged acidity, caressing and silky towards the long finish. If there is any justice, this should be in your cellar. 90-92 Points

Bichot La Justice label Producer:Aromas of red fruit on the nose (black cherry, blackberry). Subtle hints of oak are complemented by notes of liquorice. Over time, notes of spices, forest undergrowth, even musky notes will develop. This wine is silky, structured, tannic and well-balanced on the palate. The finish features all the fruitiness of the nose.

Another vineyard of interest
Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Les Sorbets 2015
Les Sorbets (or Les Sorbes) is a 2.68 hectare vineyard below Clos de Tart. There are not a lot of producers.

Tim Atkin MW: Les Sorbets is a comparatively protected site, surrounded by houses and cellars in the lower part of the village. Like a cross between a Morey and a Chambolle, with floral aromas, sweet red plum and strawberry fruit, nuanced oak and fine tannins. 2020-26. 94 Points
