6 Serious Grand Cru Reds from 2014

2014 6 Grand Cru Reds Header
Highly rated wines that you should not miss...
When the 2014 vintage was first reviewed by the critics they almost all came to the decision that it was a great vintage for whites and a good to very good vintage for reds. One major exception was Burghound who expressed his preference for the 2014 reds very early. It was interesting to hear what the winemakers say as the majority I have spoken to profess a love for 2014.
However, as time has passed, we have seen the 2014's grow in stature and today the difference between 2014 and 2015 is more a matter of which style you prefer.
The 2014's are more classic, the 2015's more exuberant. They are both super.
With all the fanfare over 2015 taking drinker's attention we still have a few exceptional 2014's available. Most are now in stock.
For the next few days we offer these wines at what were our original Pre Arrival Prices. And we have a few wines yet to arrive so they are available at Pre Arrival Prices. Take a good look. There are some great wines, with huge scores, at pretty reasonable prices for Grand Cru Burgundy from the Cote de Nuits.

Domaine Georges Lignier Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2014
Normal Price $399.95
Special $339.95
19 available
Lignier Roche Label
Tim Atkin MW:
A more backward and tannic wine than the Clos Saint Denis, as you'd expect at this stage, this is still a focused, beautifully constructed wine with slightly more oak than its Morey partner, but that same mastery of fruit purity. Floral, spicy and attractive, this is another first class red. 2023-28.
95 Points

Domaine Bertagna Chambertin Grand Cru 2014
Normal Price $455.00
Special Pre Arrival Price $318.50
26 available

Bertagna Chambertin Label Decanter World Wine Awards 2017: Spicy and stout with a floral and spicy nose. Bags of red fruits and class on the silky palate. Very good indeed. No rush in the cellar
. Gold Medal and 95 Points

Darren Harris:
Deep red. Explosive aromatics. Minerals, spicy red fruits - currants, raspberry combined with cherry tartness. Longjing tea and earthy notes combine with smokey spice and a wild note to seduce the senses. Quality new oak is all but buried behind the opulent and powerful mid palate: very textured with a great sweetness of fruit that (at least initially) could be 2015. The fine tannins kick in towards the end to add line and drive. You could be forgiven for drinking this now but like all Chambertin it will surely close down and demand time in the cellar.

Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014
Normal Price $289.50
Special $245.95
11 available

Drouhin-Laroze Latricieres Tim Atkin MW: The change of generation in 2014 has resulted in a shift in style at this domaine, with less evident extracton in the wines. This is a very attractive, perfumed Latricières with subtle, refined oak, spicy, succulent, red berry flavours, a lick of chalk and a lingering finish. 2019-25
. 96 Points

Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:
The 2014 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has an attractive nose: more vibrant and nuanced than the Chapelle-Chambertin with more mineralité filtering through those lifted black and red fruit. The palate is crisp and tensile with fine tannin, juicy black fruit with just a touch of citrus lemon towards the finish. Yes, there is a bit of new oak to be assimilated (60%) but once it does, this will be a very fine Latricières that exudes class and a nascent sense of energy. 92-94 Points

Domaine des Chezeaux (Ponsot)
Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014
Normal Price $470.00
Special $399.50
21 available

Chezeaux GriottesVinified and bottled by Ponsot.

Burghound: The cool, pure and airy nose is consists of red currant, earth and spice nuances that display a top note of rose petal. There is terrific intensity to the sleek and mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess fine size, weight and focused power on the saline finish where a touch of bitter cherry appears.
 92-95 Points

Albert Bichot Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru 2014
Normal Price $428.00
Pre Arrival Price $364.00
12 available

Bichot Roche Label Tim Atkin MW: This may be a négociant wine, but the Bichot team decides when it wants to pick the grapes. It's got a wild, savoury, bloody note to it, somewhere between a Corton and a Pommard in style, supported by sappy black fruits, firmish tannins and well integrated oak. 2020-29.
 96 Points
Decanter Magazine:
Reticent nose that broods with dark minerality. Very well proportioned palate, with excellent weight of delicious dark berry fruit, bramble and a dried herb note that really adds lift to the flavour profile. Excellent length and generosity of fruit, but all kept expertly in check. Gold Medal and 95 Points

Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2014
Normal Price $343.50
Special Price $291.95
4 available

Drouhin-Laroze Bonnes-Mares label Tim Atkin MW: Sourced from a 1,5 hectare parcel of Bonnes Mares on red soils on the Morey side of the Grand Cru, this is another finely judged wine from Caroline Drouhin. Oak balance, sweet berry fruit, a hint of good reduction and textured, nuanced tannins. A domaine that's on the up.
