Super new reviews from Bill Nanson's The Burgundy Report!
In March I had the pleasure of tasting at Domaine Pascal Bouley. This small family owned domaine is just 9 hectares in size but their range of wines includes six serious Premier Cru Volnays including Clos de Chenes, Champans, Santenots and the Monopole Grands Champs.

It was a terrific tasting of serious Volnay, all with unique personalities. Unlike many small domaines, Pascal Bouley, due to the efforts of the son Pierrick, is visited and reviewed glowingly by the wine critics. The 2014's received wonderful reviews from Burghound and he has again visited and tasted the 2015's. We also have reviews from Claude Kolm of The Fine Wine Review and yesterday we added reviews of the 2015's from Bill Nanson's Burgundy Report. They are very good reviews (note Bill does not use scores)!
I am so pleased that I have decided to offer the wines one more time at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount. This offer will end next Monday so this will be your last chance to save that extra 10%.

Below are three of the wines. Click here to view the full range.

Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2015
Landed Price $117.95
Normal Pre Arrival Price $99.95
Special Pre Arrival Price $88.50 (Save 25%)

Bouley Champans Label NV
The Fine Wine Review
Dark fruit aromas and flavors mark the Champans. There is good acidity here, but also the richness typical of Champans. As mentioned above, this wine was made with 20% whole clusters. It is very good Champans.
91-95 Points

Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report":
From the northern side of the vineyard, close to Carelles Sous la Chapelle. 14° natural - made with roughly 20% whole clusters.
A very much finer nose of depth and beautiful floral top notes - hyper complex and it doesn't get much better than this. Fresh, decent volume, layers of flavour, then more layers of flavour - a good mineral style but with a sweetness of ripe fruit too. Clearly a wine to wait a little longer for, but also really a great, great wine - bravo!
Volnay 1er Cru Ronceret 2015
Landed Price $112.95
Normal Pre Arrival Price $95.50
Special Pre Arrival Price $84.75 (Save 25%)

Bouley Ronceret Label NV The Fine Wine Review: Here we have fresh acidity in the mouth to go with the smooth texture so common in the vintage. This wine distinguishes itself from the preceding ones by greater energy, finesse, and lightness.
90-94 Points

Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report":
Right in the middle of the 1ers at the top of the vineyard. Quite deep soil but with lots of small rocks.
A vivid and concentrated fruit almost too much! Lots of volume - a wine whose intensity and mouth-watering style grows and grows. A little more mineral than the last - wider in the mid-palate - more open finishing - but again quite mineral.

Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chenes 2015
Landed Price $116.50
Normal Pre Arrival Price $98.95
Special Pre Arrival Price $87.50 (Save 25%)

Bouley Chenes Label NV
The Fine Wine Review:  The best was saved for last. This outstanding Clos des Chênes displays elegance, even within the context of this elegant vintage, but it also has the power and tension of Clos des Chênes, as will as some fullness. There's plenty of dark berry fruit and minerality, but also tannins lurking beneath.
92-96 Points

Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report":
From 2 parcels, a large top to bottom parcel in the middle of the vineyard and a smaller parcel at the southern end of the vineyard next to Monthelie - both above the road. Maybe 10% whole clusters here - depends on the vintage, but usually it's only this and the Champans that might get some whole clusters. More remontage than pigeage these days - 'it is always too easy to extract this wine.'
Not particularly deeper colour than the last. Wide, good freshness, faintly warm-spiced and there's a modest floral note too. In the mouth this is large, growing in intensity, and with just a little undercurrent of structure too. Bracing flavour though - such a young wine - maybe more-so than the last. But open and with fine clarity - yum! - but give it some time. Excellent! A great finish.

More Volnay
Volnay is loved for its Cote de Nuits-like aromatics and silky finish with a few years in bottle.
It also ages extremely well.
