Pommard - I don't drink it! Well you should start to reconsider your stance on this commune. Once the home of heavy, meaty, tannic wines Pommard is seeing the same care and attention that Corton enjoyed a decade ago and it is producing some wonderful, stylish wines.
Domaine Brigitte Berthelemot have been on a fast growth path. In the last five years they have expanded their holdings with some significant new 1er Crus is the Cote de Beaune.
The latest purchase was a 0.31 hectare parcel of the Pommard 1er Cru Les Arvelets. Les Arvelets is a steep vineyard located high on the slope at around 280 metres above sea level. The soil is red with many small stones.
The first vintage of Les Arvelets for Domaine Berthelemot is 2015. It will also be the last for almost a decade as the old vines (planted in 1953 and 1961) proved to be not particularly productive and the domaine has decided that long term it would be better off replanting.
The vineyard produced just enough fruit for two barrels of wine - the equivalent of just 600 bottles.
Perhaps the decision to replant means this wine has been keenly priced by the domaine. It's a serious bargain!
The wine is in stock and we have just 20 bottles remaining. For today only you may purchase the remaining bottles at what was the Pre Arrival Price.

Darren Harris: Two barrels produced. One and two year old oak. Purple-red hue. Violets, raspberries, crunchy cherries. A little graphite. The palate displays all the fruits on the nose with a creamy texture no doubt from the old vines. There is a mid palate that combines a complex raspberry and violet sorbet with the cream and a real aromatic lift. Textured. Underneath there is some crushed stone. More Volnay than Pommard. And delicious. 100% whole bunch, complex, aromatic. The tannins fine and hidden beneath the fruit complexity. If you have a picture of Pommard based on wines of yesteryear you will be surprised. This is elegant Pommard personified. It's a one-off as the domaine will grub up the vines as the yields were ridiculously low.
That's a great price for Premier Cru Red Burgundy from a top vintage.
