Domaine des Chezeaux - Identical Wines to Domaine Ponsot at seriously good prices.

Domaine des Chezeaux
Identical Wines to Domaine Ponsot at seriously good prices...
Domaine des Chézeaux owns nearly 60% of Griotte-Chambertin (1.57 hectares) as well as vines in Clos St. Denis, Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St-Jacques and Cazetiers and Gevrey villages.

While Domaine des Chézeaux sells wine under its own label, it does not work the vines or make the wines. The Griottes-Chambertin, Clos St. Denis, Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes are all produced by Domaine Ponsot under a metayage arrangement. Ponsot leases the vines and one third of the finished wine is given to Chezeaux as payment.

Chezeaux Ponsot

These wines are identical to those bottled under the Ponsot label (simply one third of the bottled wines are returned to Chezeaux). In fact the bottles bear the name Ponsot molded on the base, the same modern synthetic cork and the label states "Eleve, vinifie et mis en bouteille par le Domaine Ponsot". Only the label design is different!

If you are a fan of Ponsot wines you should not miss today's offer for Domaine de Chezeaux.

We have 3 different wines from 2014, including the Clos St-Denis from 100+ year old vines, available at exceptional prices. The wines are in stock and for the rest of the week they are available at what were the Pre Arrival Prices.

Burghound: The cool, pure and airy nose is consists of red currant, earth and spice nuances that display a top note of rose petal. Chezeaux Chambertin Label
Burghound: A notably earthier nose also grudgingly offers up notes of wild dark berries, spice and smoked meat nuances. The impressively intense big-bodied flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration as well as outstanding depth and length on the moderately austere and intensely mineral-driven finish. Like the Bèze this sleekly muscular effort is elegant yet entirely serious. Patience. 93-95 Points

Domaine des Chezeaux (Ponsot)
Clos St-Denis Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru 2014
Normal Price $778.00
Special $659.00

Chezeaux Denis Label Burghound: Like the Clos de la Roche the ultra-fresh nose displays a curious hint of menthol on the spicy array of red currant, tea, lavender, violet and plenty of earth character. The dense, palate coating and once again sleekly muscular medium-bodied flavors are blessed with a seemingly endless reserve of tannin-buffering dry extract that imparts a sappy mouth feel to the massively long finish. The old vines are really in evidence and this regal effort should effortlessly age for years yet be approachable after only 10
94-96 Points

Domaine Drouhin-Laroze
Domaine Drouhin-Laroze was established in 1850 by Jean-Baptiste Laroze in Gevrey-Chambertin. In 1919 Suzanne, his granddaughter married Alexandre Drouhin who owned vines in Chambolle-Musigny and the Domaine Drouhin-Laroze was created.

Today, the sixth generation is in charge of 11.5 hectares of vines spread across some prestigious sites in the Cote de Nuits including the Grand Crus Chambertin Clos de Beze, Bonnes-Mares, Clos Vougeot, Latriceres-Chambertin and Chapelle-Chambertin. There are also some very handy Premier Crus from Gevrey-Chambertin.

The last 7 bottles are on Special this week at what was our Pre Arrival Price.
Tim Atkin MW: Sourced from a 1,5 hectare parcel of Bonnes Mares on red soils on the Morey side of the Grand Cru, this is another finely judged wine from Caroline Drouhin. Oak balance, sweet berry fruit, a hint of good reduction and textured, nuanced tannins. A domaine that's on the up. 95 Points
