Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
4-Bottle Tasting Pack - Just $439.00!
It is Thursday in Burgundy. I had hoped to be able to catch an earlier flight back to Australia and have completed all of my tasting appointments in readiness. But that is not going to happen. I'll be on the Saturday evening flight from Lyon as originally booked.

What to do tomorrow? I have somewhat randomly sent a few emails to domaines that are of some interest.

Included in the selection is Domaine Camus. Domaine Camus own around 18 ha of vines including 10.5 ha of Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin. They have something of a reputation for underachieving. Why? Is there any basis behind the whispers? I have tasted some of their wines from the 1960's and the wines have been good.

In the process of looking for their contact details I stumbled across an article in Bill Nanson's Burgundy Report. It seems he too was curious. Read the article here.

I contacted the domaine and was told they were very busy. They have a meeting Friday afternoon at 1.45pm with their insurance agent. Apparently a vehicle had crashed into their vineyards and there was much to resolve. No one knew how long the meeting would take. In the end it was agreed that I could visit at 5pm but there was no guarantee that their meeting would be over. I had to take my chances!

So I duly arrived at 5pm and was greeted by Melle Camus, the meeting had concluded. We ran through a generous range of wines, both old and new, and I must say I was surprised at the quality. Don't get me wrong, this is not Domaine Armand Rousseau, but the price of Camus wines is about 25% of that of Rousseau. Their Grand Crus are incredible value. And the market knows it. They had very little wine to offer me but I purchased what I could.

Today I present these remarkably affordable wines. We have a 4-Bottle Pack available at an Introductory Pre Arrival Discount of 25%. This is a rare opportunity to pick up some Grand Crus at Villages prices.
Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2003, 2006, 2010 and 2012 4-Bottle Pack
Landed Price $585.00
Pre Arrival Price $439.00 (Save 25%)
24 Packs available

Camus Charmes
Comprises one bottle each 2003, 2006, 2010 and 2012. The older wines are drinking very well, I thought the 2003 looked particularly good - fresh and not over ripe. Bill Nanson has a nice review of the 2006 on the link above. And of course we also have wines from two of the best vintages of recent years - 2010 and 2012. This works out at under $110 a bottle - for Grand Cru Burgundy from Gevrey-Chambertin.
That is unheard of!

Mallard Renardes Label
Domaine Michel Mallard Corton Les Renardes Grand Cru 2009
9 bottles left
Our first shipment from Domaine Mallard has arrived. They make some serious Corton Reds from three appellations.
They also hold their wines back to ensure they reach the market with a little bottle age.
This 2009 is a serious bottle of wine!
Burghound: (from a .75 ha parcel). This is the most complex of the three '09 grands crus with a penetrating and ripe nose of plum, pungent earth, game, black cherry and violets. The full-bodied, dense and overtly powerful flavors possess a velvety and seductive mouth feel that culminates in a mocha-infused and balanced finish. This is a very ripe wine but there is a sense of harmony here and this should mature beautifully. Excellent
