The Juillot family has been in the Mercurey region since at least 1404. The history of the domaine dates back to 1929 when Emile Juillot planted the first vines.
Today the domaine has expanded to 32.5 hectares and is run by Laurent Emile Juillot, son of the eponymous Michel.
Mercurey is named after the Roman Mercury, who was god of travel and commerce. The reputation of the area was built in te 17th century under the Valois Dukes of Burgundy. Today the red wines are known for their depth and richness, the whites for their structure and citric notes.
They are also known for their value.
Unfortunately, Burghound reviews of the 2010's have not yet been published. We have listed the 2009 reviews on our website to give you an idea of the quality you can expect from the classic 2010 vintage. Most wines receive Burghound's Sweet Spot award, with many Premier Crus scoring in the 90s. This is very impressive for wines that are priced in the low $40s.
Terms such as "wonderfully complex", "wonderful richness", "this is terrific", "impeccably well balanced", "extract-laden", "quintessential pinot nose" and "beguiling richness" are all used by Burghound.
If you are looking for some great drinking Pinot and Chardonnay I do suggest you take a look at these wines. For around the same prices as generic Bourgogne you can buy a Premier Cru from Juillot!

And some serious Grand Crus at sensible prices....
2010 Domaine Juillot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Normal Price $195.00
Pre Arrival Price $165.00
Pre Arrival Case Price $1860.00 (=$155.00 a bottle)
Juillot's parcel is just 0.65 ha and is located directly alongside Coche-Dury's vines. We are too early for Burghound's note on the 2010 but past vintages are described as powerful, precise, concentrated, gorgeously textured, mineral and long. John Gilman (A View from the Cellar) is also a big fan. I tasted Juillot's wines at the Grand Jours de Bourgogne earlier this year and was also very impressed. If you like Corton-Charlemagne this wine is a must have. Corton-Charlemagne cellars so well so why not put a few extra bottles into the cellar.
2010 Domaine Juillot Corton Perrieres Grand Cru
Normal Price $129.00
Pre Arrival Price $109.00
Pre Arrival Case Price $1188.00 (=$99.00 a bottle)
Another great red from the commune that has shown incredible quality improvement in recent years. Burghound describes Juillot's 2005 as such " Corton-Perrières does not receive as much credit as it should for being one of the most elegant and sophisticated of the Corton grands crus as it can be very fine as this example demonstrates amply with its high-toned and very pure red pinot fruit aromas that display evident minerality. The flavors are very fresh, detailed and powerful and the hallmark minerality resurfaces on the focused and beautifully long finish. This will require at least a decade to be at its best as there are very firm and mouth coating tannins lurking beneath the baby fat. In a word, terrific." The 2010 is just as good, if not better. Remarkable value at just $99.00 a bottle by the case!
