Lavaux St-Jacques 2012, 2014 and 2015. Last Stocks from the Domaine

Bichot Lavaux Last Stocks Header
Three top wines!

Lavaux St-Jacques is located on the western side of the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. It is a cooler site tucked towards the Combe de Lavaux right alongside, and on the same elevation, as Clos St-Jacques. The topography ensures a stream of fresh, cool air which translates into style and finesse. Jasper Morris says "Lavaux St-Jacques makes a fine-boned Gevrey with precision and elegance; much more a red-fruit wine than a dense dark Pinot."
I am a big fan of the vineyard and the quality and style it regularly delivers. Whilst in Burgundy this week I managed to prise the last bottles of 2015, 2014 and 2012 out of Albert Bichot. It wasn't much but it was enough to present all three wines one more time.

Tim Atkin MW:
Given its position at the bottom of the cool Combe de Lavaux, it's no surprise that the Premier Cru made such balanced wines in a hot vintage. This is a very polished, refreshing Pinot with redcurrant and pomegranate fruit, a dusting of oak and chalky acidity. 2022-28. 95 Points

Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:
The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint Jacques has a fragrant bouquet with very fine Pinot Noir character, the coolness of the site really counterbalancing the precocity of the vintage and frankly, showing up the more alcoholic and powerful Vosne-Romanée Malconsorts. The palate is very well balanced with supple tannin, fleshy and harmonious in the mouth with a very elegant, quite suave finish. This comes highly recommended. 92-94 Points

Burghound:
A completely different aromatic profile is present here with its dark currant, humus, plum and animale scents. The earthy, punchy and detailed flavors possess solid mid-palate richness before culminating in a linear, austere, stony and muscular finale. This is a classically styled LSJ and worth checking out. 92 Points
Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report": Beautifully perfumed nose, exquisitely perfumed over deeper fruit. Large-scaled, faintly saline, a little tannin at the base but also supple, energetic and engagingly complex. What a lovely wine...Mouth watering, almost mouth staining flavour. A bigger, slightly broader wine than the Vosne (1er Cru Malconsorts), and today, maybe better!

Tim Atkin MW:
Made with purchased grapes, this is still among the top wines at Bichot in 2012. It's a single parcel red that is very true to its cool, even chilly terroir. Fresh and silky with classic red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate notes, it's gently rather than aggressively oaked and very minerally to boot. 2017-25. 94 Points
