Lovely reviews from Burghound
A new addition to our portfolio not to be missed!
"Domaine Pascal Bouley is an old family estate - as I understand it Pierrick Bouley represents the fifth generation at the estate .. so a lot of heritage and knowledge about the wine making and the terroirs of Volnay.
Pierrick runs the estate with his parents ... Pascal and Réyane Bouley - and the main market has so far been France - with quite a large share to private clients in France. This estate does however deserve the attention of collectors of Volnay all over the world.
The wines are mainly from the Volnay appellation - with the occasional wines from the surrounding appellations." Steen Ohman, Winehog.org
I am delighted to add Domaine Pascal Bouley to our portfolio. It checks two boxes with very large ticks. Firstly, the wines are very good and have lovely reviews from Burghound. Secondly, the prices are almost too good to be true.
Domaine Pascal Bouley is located in Volnay. They are small family owned domaine of 9 hectares but their range of wines include six serious Premier Cru Volnays including Clos de Chenes, Champans, Santenots and the Monopole Grands Champs.
There are numerous Bouleys producing wine in Volnay and it would be fair to say the most famous is Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley who is a cousin of Pascal. They make lovely wines. HOWEVER, a quick glance at Burghound for the 2014 vintage will show that the wines of Domaine Pascal Bouley far outperform their more famous relative. The top 4 Bouley Volnays of the vintage all come from Pascal. Of the top 9 wines from the extended family 7 of them are from Pascal Bouley and that includes all of their 1er Cru Volnays plus the Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Bas des Teurons (a ridiculously low $52.00 a bottle!).
To top it off the Pascal Bouley wines ARE LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE of the Jean-Marc Bouley!
"Pierrick makes wine with a quite light hand - only little new oak, low extraction and a relatively low amount of SO2 - they are classic wines with a contemporary touch. In my world Volnays should be like this - i.e. elegant wines, refined wines - wines that are not dark and dense - but wines that reflects the very character of pinot noir and Burgundy. Sadly many attempts have been made to make dark and somewhat extracted Volnays ... I don't like these wines as they rarely develop the refined and delicate complexity a Volnay should have. The Volnay terroirs are special as the top vineyards also have a slight tendency to austerity ... and this - in my view - needs a light hand otherwise they rarely unfold the full complexity a great Volnay can offer." Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2014
Landed Price $106.50
Normal Pre Arrival Price $90.50
Special Pre Arrival Price $79.95 (Save 25%)
Burghound: A pretty, cool and very restrained nose of ripe red currant, dark cherry and soft earth and spice notes are also trimmed in a deft touch of wood. The supple yet powerful medium weight flavors possess good size and weight while displaying a relatively refined mouth feel thanks to the fine-grained tannins, all wrapped in a concentrated, balanced and impressively persistent finish. This classy and beautifully balanced Champans will need 5 to 7 years to shed at least some of its tannic core and should reward 10 to 12. A Sweet Spot Wine.

Volnay 1er Cru Ronceret 2014
Landed Price $102.95
Normal Pre Arrival Price $87.50
Special Pre Arrival Price $76.95 (Save 25%)
Burghound: (from Ronceret proper). A discreet application of wood frames the dark berry fruit, cassis, spice and tea scents. There is good detail to the vibrant and velvety middle weight flavors that possess lovely depth on the balanced finish where an appealing hint of minerality is in evidence. I very much like the highly seductive texture and thanks to the abundant sap this should be accessible young but age well too. Excellent

Beaune 1er Cru Les Clos du Bas des Teurons 2014
Landed Price $69.50
Normal Pre Arrival Price $58.95
Special Pre Arrival Price $52.00 (Save 25%)
Burghound: A perfumed and elegant nose consists of spiced plum, dark cherry and soft earth nuances. There is a lovely sense of purity to the lilting and particularly fine middle weight flavors where the supporting tannins are refined and well-integrated on the balanced, clean and mildly austere finish. A Beaune of finesse

These would have to be the best value wines in our portfolio. If you love classic Burgundy jump in and nab yourself some lovely wines at "old-fashioned' prices. Later in the year we will offer the 2015's. However, quantities are very small due to the hail that year and buyers of the 2014's will receive first opportunity
