The Seldom Seen Premier Cru Abbaye de Morgeot. From the 2014 Vintage

Great Quality at an Affordable Price

Around 1550 Cistercian monks from the Abbey of Maizieres built the Morgot Abbey in the hamlet of Chassagne-Montrachet.

Today, the Abbey is uninhabited and in decay but it lends its name to the vineyards surrounding it which in effect lie within the 1er Crus Morgeot and La Chapelle.

The soil here is limestone marl, red-tinted with ferrous oxides on a layer of bathonian limestone pebbles. Unlike much of Morgeot this part of the vineyard was traditionally a white wine site. It produces a more mineral wine than most of Morgeot hence the reason that it is labelled with more detail.

In 2011 Domaine Berthelemot purchased a 0.5316 hectare parcel in this interesting vineyard. The first vintage was 2012 and today we offer the outstanding 2014.

As we all know 2014 is a great vintage for White Burgundy. The wines are very mineral, long and fresh. The only issue is that very few are still available. Domaine Berthelemot is an address for those looking for big name whites at seriously good prices.

Berthelemot Abbaye Label 2A racey nose of white flowers, crushed stones and citrus. On the palate crisp fruit notes interplay with stones and zingy acidity. The wine has intensity and weight, is tightly wound, and is balanced by the beautiful freshness and liveliness of this super white vintage.

Seriously good and extremely well priced.
