Domaine Georges Lignier 2015 Red Burgundies. Great reviews! Don't miss these serious Burgundies

They say all good things take time. Benoit Stehly, the nephew of Georges, has been making the wines at George Lignier for some years. He has refined and developed his own style which is more about freshness, aromatics and complexity rather than extraction and heavy oak handling.

I tasted his 2015's in December and was extremely impressed. I dare say they are the best wines Benoit has made.
And both Tim Atkin MW and Stephen Tanzer seems to be in agreement too. They have given the 2015 Grand Crus huge scores and wonderful reviews.
Those at our 2015 Burgundy Dinner last night tasted the Clos St-Denis and Clos de la Roche and the response was terrific.

Like all 2015 reds demand is huge so please don't think too long. These great reviews have placed even more pressure on the domaine's production.
All wines are available at a 15% Pre Arrival Discount.

Clos St-Denis Grand Cru 2015
Normal Price $350.00
Pre Arrival Price $297.50

Lignier Clos St Denis Label
Tim Atkin MW:
One of the parcels that make up the domaine's holdings of the Grand Cru is literally in Benoit Stehly's back garden. This old vine cuvée sees 50% whole bunches and shows the freshnes and fragrance of the Grand Cru. Silky, vivacious and skilfully oaked, with raspberry and loganberry sweetness and a light, tangy finish. 2022-32. 96 Points

Stephen Tanzer: Deep, bright red. Urgent crushed cherry and red raspberry fruit aromas are complicated and lifted by rose petal, white pepper, citrus peel and sexy oak; an essence of Clos Saint-Denis. Rich, layered and deep but also wonderfully brisk, with an exhilarating element of blood orange contributing to the impression of razor-sharp definition. Finishes with fine-grained, noble tannins, subtle rising length and a magically weightless impression. A wine of compelling purity and class, this beauty should be long-lived. The yield here was 30 hectoliters per hectare and the pH is 3.4, according to Stehly. Incidentally, this estate is the largest owner of vines in Clos Saint-Denis, at 1.49 hectares. Stehly picks this fruit in the morning because he uses a smaller tank in which it would be harder to chill the grapes. He continues to sell some of his Clos Saint-Denis to Lucien Le Moine, Marchand-Tawse and Jadot, noting that his clients supply their own barrels and take the wines, with their lees, in January. (He also sells some of his Clos de la Roche.). 93-96 Points
Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2015
Normal Price $440.00
Pre Arrival Price $374.00
Very Limited

Lignier Roche Label
Tim Atkin MW:
The Clos de la Roche bottling is generally richer and broader than the Clos St Denis at this domaine and that's the case here. Sourced from four parcels in Chabiots, Fremières, Mochamps and Clos de la Roche itself, it's another brilliant red from Benoît Stehly. Mocha oak, dark berry fruit, fine-grained tannins and a core of refreshing acidity. First class winemaking. 2025-35. 96 Points

Stephen Tanzer: Healthy bright red. Darker on the nose than the Clos Saint-Denis, even a bit brooding, but still with superb lift to the aromas of black cherry, licorice, clove, rose petal and black pepper. Then very backward in the mouth, but already displays superb cut to the intense raspberry and pepper flavors. The wine's firm tannic spine will require serious patience. Stehly uses a different mix of barrels to accentuate the differences between this wine and his Clos Saint-Denis: the Clos de la Roche is aged entirely in Cadus barrels with three origins of wood, while Stehly uses barrels from Cadus, Berthomieux and Val de Loire for the Clos Saint-Denis. 92-95 Points

Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2015
Normal Price $545.00
Pre Arrival Price $463.00

Lignier Bonnes-Mares LabelTim Atkin MW:
Planted in the 1930s, this 0.22-hectare parcel is located in the Chambolle side of the Grand Cru on red soils. Whole bunch spice, some ferrous, bloody grip, subtle, almost diaphanous berry fruit and deftly handled oak: this is a brilliant red that will only improve with age. 2025-35. 96 Points

Stephen Tanzer: Moderately saturated bright red. Deep, brooding aromas of raspberry, spices, white pepper and fresh herbs are wonderfully cool for the year. At once penetrating and weightless on the palate, displaying a very firm spine to the flavors of medicinal red cherry, raspberry, menthol, minerals and crushed stone. Darker and stricter than the 2014 version, this classically dry wine finishes with firm, slightly edgy tannins and excellent grip. 92-94 Points
