The Guyots are one of the oldest families in Marsannay-la-Côte. Today they still plough by horse and practice biodynamic cultivation methods
The founder, Louis Guyot was a small farmer/wine-grower with many animals, particularly carthorses which he used to help in the vineyards and at harvest time.
Today the domaine is managed by Olivier Guyot who tends for the 15 hectares spread across Marsannay, Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin and Morey-St-Denis. And yes, the vineyards are ploughed by Indigo the cart horse (in the photo above), just as his ancestors did.
I first tasted the wines of Domaine Guyot at the Grands Jours de Bourgogne in March this year. I was very impressed with the purity, race and power the wines displayed. So I arranged the visit the domaine the following week where I was shown the full range of 2010 reds. They were even more impressive than my first sip.
Guyot is a name that has slipped under the radar. He is not reviewed by Burghound or Tanzer. But I can assure you that the wines are terrific. They are deep and intense but true to their terroir. We are delighted to include this discovery in our portfolio.
1er Cru Les Fuees
Pre Arrival Price $121.50
It is no secret that I am a big fan of Les Fuees. For me it captures the essence of Chambolle-Musigny. The 2010 has seen 70% new oak and it carries with aplomb.
The 2010 Fuees is more spicy than the Vieilles Vignes. Classic perfumed Chambolle nose of black and red fruits with minerals and spice. A touch of complexing kirsch character that adds depth to the wine. The wine has lovely silky mouthfeel and a long, and lovely finish. This is extremely stylish. Classic! A knockout wine!
Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Pre Arrival Price $199.95
Classic Clos de la Roche nose of dark berries and plums with minerals and a touch of earth. Concentrated and deep, dark flavours with plenty of extract before a seriously long, stylish finish. Powerful and brooding and an exceptional example of what this Grand Cru vineyard can produce. It doesn't come much better!
