Save an incredible 40% on the Domaine Giraud 2007 and 2009 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Tradition.

Normally $75.00. End of Financial Year Special just $45.00 a bottle!

Domaine Giraud was the first Chateauneuf producer we imported. They are a family domaine producing terrific wines but their product range is small and the allocation ratio for their wines makes them unsuitable for our market.

We have decided in light of the success of the other new properties that we will no longer import Domaine Giraud. With two more containers, mostly of 2010 Burgundy, either on the way or about to leave France we can certainly use the space in our warehouse.

So we present the 2007 and 2009 Domaine Giraud Chateauneuf-du-Pape Tradition bottlings at an incredible 40% discount off normal retail. These are serious wines at an unbeatable price.

The red Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Tradition is a blend of 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 5% Mouvedre. The grapes are generally destemmed and a cold maceration is followed by fermentation which lasts 3-4 weeks. The wine is aged for 18 months in enamel-lined cement vats and stainless steel. Interestingly, the Syrah component is aged in Bordeaux barriques to promote micro-oxygenation and give structure. It is then bottled without fining or filtering.

Giraud Tradition Label Small 2007 is a legendary vintage in Chateanueuf.

Wine Spectator: Gorgeously ripe and totally inviting, with lush plum, crushed fig, macerated currant and boysenberry fruit all gliding along seamlessly over graphite, tar and charcoal notes. The superlong finish has well-embedded acidity. Shows terrific poise, despite its explosive fruit. Best from 2010 through 2025. 2,130 cases made. 94 points

The Wine Advocate: The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is a big-time sleeper of the vintage. Deeper-colored than Les Grenaches de Pierre, it offers beautiful, ripe black raspberry, licorice, cherry, roasted herb, and meat juice-like notes, full body, a voluptuous texture, and a superb finish that lasts for 40-45 seconds. A blend of 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre from 70-year-old vines, all except the Syrah is aged in steel tanks and concrete. The Syrah component spends time in small barrels. It should drink well for 15 years. 93 Points

The Rhone Report: Offering up stunning aromatics of kirsch, raspberries, tar, hot stone and garrigue, the 2007 Domaine Giraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape is full bodied, very rich, textured and long. Despite the size and full texture, this has purity and precision. Drink over the next 15 years. 93 points

2009 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Tradition
Usual Price $75.00
End of Financial Year Special Price $45.00
Giraud Tradition 2009 Label Another great year. The 2009 is a little more restrained than the 2007. Not quite as rich or ripe, it is a beautiful drink.
The Rhone Report: Showing similar tannic strength to the Les Gallimardes, the 2009 Domaine Giraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape possesses an earthy, mineral core with complementing raspberry and blackberry fruit, spice, and licorice aromatics. Medium+ bodied with ripe tannin, solid texture and a long finish, this should benefit from 2 to 4 years in the cellar and drink well for 15. 91-93 Points

Drink Rhone: red with bright tints. Wrapped up, enclosed bouquet, gives a shimmer of heat, red berry jelly, is curvaceous, and I like the smoke and mystery in it. The palate delivers the juice of the vintage, notably at half way; drinks well now. And lengthens steadily as it goes. Good local feel, STGT in style. 4 Stars

Giraud Label Pierre We have also discounted the Grenaches de Pierre and Les Gallimardes 15% for the duration of our Sale. These are spectacular cuvees produced in very small quantities. Our stocks are tiny (just 12 and 5 bottles respectively) - if you want some of these be very quick!

Chambertin Clos de Beze for $159.50 - we must be crazy!

Tasting note: This red Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has a beautiful ruby red cololur with raspberry reflections. The nose is a complex palette of red fruit and floral aromas enhanced by a delicate oaky note which blends nicely with the fruit. Racy and distinguished, this wine has great roundness with a fine and delicately-grained background.
