Another of my purchases from the cellars of Doudet-Naudin.
Aged white Burgundy was once one of the great pleasures of the wine world. But alas, as we all know, it is not easy to find decade old whites still in perfect condition.
At my tasting at Doudet-Naudin last Friday I tried this wine and was knocked out with its freshness and character. 2002 was one of the stars of the 2000's and winehog.org describes the vintage as "cool and quite classic". The best wines have aged beautifully.
Most of us are caught up with the big names - Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault and don't give the whites of other areas like Beaune much attention. However, I can tell you that Beaune produces some very long lived whites that develop real complexity and are seriously interesting.
On tasting this wine I immediately snapped up the last 123 bottles in the domaine's reserve stock.
For lovers of aged white Burgundy or those interested to see what it is all about it is a steal at our special price of just $69.95 a Bottle.
You can't buy the current vintage of this wine at this price!
I am so impressed by this wine should you buy some and find it is oxidized I will refund you the bottle price. Offer is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. How can you go wrong?

Darren Harris: Apart from Clos de Mouches we do not see many whites from Beaune. However, the commune is very capable of producing long-lived whites that develop serious complexity. This is one example! Quite pale colour. Intense nose displaying crème brulee with some citrus and flowers. The palate is rich and round, but not fat - it is underpinned by good acidity. Fresh! Really rather complex and drinking beautifully. Not a trace of premature ageing. 2002 was a highly lauded vintage for white Burgundy. Unfortunately in Australia we see far too many premoxed whites. This Beaune 1er Cru is fresh and very interesting. Try it. Aged white Burgundy as it should be!
Aged Burgundies are no longer available in the quantities they once were. This is a great opportunity to secure a 14-year-old white less than the price of the current vintage.
