Morot 2012 Teurons Header
A serious 1er Cru Red Burgundy from 2012 for under $100 a bottle!
Domaine Albert Morot has been one of our most popular imports. Run by the charming Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry, this small domaine of only 8 hectares, produces a fine range of Beaune Premier Crus from old vines in some of the commune's best vineyards.

Great care is taken both in the vineyard and winery to ensure the terroir and freshness of the wines are retained.

The 2012's have arrived and are a real treat. Teurons is located in the middle of the Beaune 1er Crus. Clive Coates considers it to be the best Premier Cru of the commune. It is certainly a structured wine in its youth.

The 2012 has now enjoyed a couple of years in bottle and has really started to bloom. It has a smokey, small wild berry nose with a dose of minerality. On the palate the wine has the concentration so typical of the lovely 2012 vintage with vibrancy and freshness all kept in line by some fine grained tannins (important for the wine's ageability). It is drinking beautifully now but another five years in the cellar would not go astray.

At under $100 a bottle this is a terrific wine. It really shows what the Cote de Beaune can do in years where the grapes ripen perfectly.

The wine showed beautifully at yesterday's tasting at Union Dining so for the next few days we offer this wine at what were our Pre Arrival Prices (a 15% discount). We have the Beaune 1er Cru Teurons available in 750ml and 1500ml. Pop some in the cellar!

Wine Enthusiast - Roger Voss: Smoky aromas add to the red fruits and manifest themselves on the palate as the spicy, toasty wood aging. The fruits are still developing, a series of rich berries and currants that will be ripe and generous. For the moment, the dry tannins dominate, so give this wine until 2018. 93 Points
Stephen Tanzer:
Bright red. Serious, backward nose hints at menthol and smoky minerality. Densely packed and well-delineated, showing very good energy and definition to the dark cherry and menthol flavors. In a tight, distinctly serious style, with a serious tannic spine saturating the palate on the juicy back end. This will require patience. 91+ Points

Produttori Asili Label
Last 6 Bottles of a 95-Point Barbaresco
Antonio Galloni Vinous:
The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is one of the most refined wines in this range. Here the fruit shows more distinctly red-toned notes, with plenty of Asili creaminess, silkiness and overall texture, not to mention considerable density. There is plenty of Asili sexiness and radiance, but at the same time, there is also more tannin and overall brightness than I expected. Not that those things are bad. Far from it. I imagine the 2011 will reward readers with many years of exceptional drinking. This is one of the most polished wines in the range of 2011 Riservas. Then again, it's Asili. 95 Points
