Established in 1982 Giaconda soon became known for its Chardonnay which had more in common with white Burgundy than most Australian examples. Winemaker Rick Kinzbrunner produces wines of style and elegance from classic varieties and his efforts have been recognized with numerous awards including Gourmet Traveller's Winemaker of the Year in 2003.
The 2010 releases from Giaconda include an exceptional Chardonnay which rates amongst Rick's very best.
We don't plan to make a habit of offering Australian wines we felt the 2010 Giaconda wines would be of interest to our Burgundy-centric clients.
2010 Giaconda Chardonnay
$119.00 a bottle
Rick Kinzbrunner: our first Chardonnay completely fermented and aged underground in our cave. This means a slower and more even ageing process, combined with the cooler season this has resulted in a wine with very long ageing potential. The wine has a signature nose of matchstick and meal with powerful underlying minerality. While similar in style to 2008 this wine is a little more racy with slightly less oak showing at this stage. The palate is highly refined and harks back to some of our best vintages from the 90s. The fruit is powerful but very well integrated with the other components.
We also have the 2010 Pinot Noir (tiny quantity), Cabernet Sauvignon and both the Estate and Warner Vineyard Shiraz available. Click here to view and order on line. You may mix and match as you please. Or buy 12 bottles of one wine and pay for 11.
Orders may also be placed by telephone and email.
