Castagnier 2015 PA Header
Quality Burgundy from Bourgogne to Grand Cru at outstanding prices

All Burgundy lovers will have read just how good the 2015 vintage is for Red Burgundy. And at the same time you will have read how a series of weather issues has decimated the 2016 vintage. There is much discussion in the trade about what will happen with prices moving forward. One fellow importer said he had heard that price increases of up to 100% were being discussed. Whilst I doubt that will happen I am sure there will be significant rises.

Jerome Castagnier priced his 2015's BEFORE the hail issues on 27 April. From his emails I know he has lost a lot of his potential 2016 production and I am sure that if he had the chance again he would price his 2015's differently.

What this means is that Domaine Castagnier's superb 2015's are likely to be well under market value. We will only know for sure when the rest of Burgundy publishes their pricing but from what I ave seen I suggest you jump in and grab some of these tremendous wines at today's prices.
My trip to the Grand Jours de Bourgogne in March included visits to numerous domaines to taste their 2015's in barrel. Everywhere I went the winemakers were delighted with the fruit and the resulting wines. It is early days but it is easy to see why the critics are jumping out of their skin, particularly for the reds.

Castagnier Clos Vougeot Domaine Castagnier is always an interesting visit. Each time I taste it seems the quality has gone up another level. Jerome might be a little disorganized but he is a lovely person and his wines are really cracking. The 2015's were the best I Castagnier Charmes-Chambertin have ever tasted. The bad news for Jerome was that the volume was about 40% down on usual so the cellar looked rather spare. Despite that my allocation has increased. This year, for the first time, we offer some
Magnums. In a great year Castagnier Roche Label new like 2015 these are real treat.
We are far too early for reviews but you will find a lot of articles on the 2015's on the internet. The most common comparison is with 2005. The 2015's are
Castagnier Denis Label New generally dark and deep, although I feel they are more supple with fresher fruit and less aggressive tannins. In general, Castagnier does not receive much attention from the English-speaking press. However, his wines are extremely well reviewed by the French Guide Hachette des Vins, frequently a much better indication of who is on the rise.
