Founded in 1987 and located in Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine Henri Magnien is a tiny estate of just 6 hectares.
But what a selection of vineyards the domaine has! Their Gevrey Premier Crus are Lavaux St-Jacques, Estournelles St-Jacques, Les Cazetiers and Les Champeaux. They also own a tiny 0.16 hectare slice of the Grand Cru Ruchottes-Chambertin, one of only 8 owners.
This is a genuine "undiscovered" producer making some exceptional wines, albeit in very small volumes. There are not a lot of reviews from the English-speaking press but if you search the French sites and wine blogs you will find some excellent comments about just how exciting the wines are.
I tasted the 2014's at the Grand Jours de Bourgogne. The terroir sang though on one of the most interesting arrays of wines I tasted during the week. This is another small domaine producing wines of a style I love and I had no hesitation adding to our portfolio. I think we have another superstar in the making here.
