Malconsorts and Amoureuses - Two of Burgundy's Most Popular Vineyards. Lovely reviews!

Two Burgundy's Most Popular Vineyards
Must-have wines for all serious Burgundy Cellars
Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Malconsorts and Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses are two of Burgundy's most desirable vineyards. Both are brilliantly located and produce wines that are almost always of Grand Cru quality. Amoureuses, in particular, is spoken of as a potential candidate for elevation to Grand Cru status.
Les Malconsorts is located alongside La Tache and less than 400 metres from Romanee-Conti it comes as no surprise. Domaine du Clos Frantin owns a substantial 1.76 ha parcel with a vine age of around 40 years. Jasper Morris MW says "Aux Malconsorts was first taken out of scrubland and planted with vines in 1610, relatively late for this part of the Cote. Nonetheless it is an exceptional vineyard, one of my three favourite premier crus along with Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses and Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St-Jacques."

Les Amoureuses produces magnificent, aromatic, complex and supple wines that outperform many Grand Crus. Accordingly, it is priced like a Grand Cru. The vineyard 5.4 hectares in size and there are not a lot of producers. Clive Coates states "This is a vineyard which, like Clos St Jacques in Gevrey-Chambertin, is regarded by most - and priced accordingly - as the equal of a grand cru.... I regularly prefer it to Bonnes-Mares. But Bonnes-Mares it is not. Les Amoureuses is really a sort of younger brother to Musigny itself: perfumed, silky-smooth, intense and soft rather than brutal and muscular, and with real finesse".

We are delighted to be able to offer both of these vineyards from the excellent 2014 vintage. Be quick - quantities remaining are not large.

Wine Advocate - Neal Martin: The 2014 Vosne Romanée 1Er Cru les Malconsorts has an elegant, refined bouquet with mineral-tinged red berry fruit, composed and a little backward but nicely focused. There is class here. The palate is supple on the entry with fine tannin, silky smooth in texture, very harmonious and nicely structured on the finish. This is a subtle Malconsorts, one that should not be underestimated92-94 Points
Burghound: (from a whopping 1.76 ha parcel). A top note of menthol adds to the breadth of the overtly spicy and fresh nose of dark currant, plum and violet scents. There is both good volume and muscle to the mineral-inflected big-bodied flavors that possess excellent power on the imposing and beautifully long finale. This beauty is built-to-age and is definitely going to need it.

The St-Jacques Vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin

Named after the statue of St-Jacques, the trio of Premier Cru vineyards at the top of Gevrey-Chambertin are considered amongst the commune's best 1er Crus.

The exposure is steep and the sites are quite cool enjoying the stream of air that comes down the combe.

We have a lovely little selection available.
