There is no better maker of Meursault than Jean-Pierre Latour of Domaine Latour-Giraud!
It has been exciting to follow the path of Domaine Latour-Giraud over recent years. This Domaine, run by Jean-Pierre Latour, has risen to the top echelon and now rates alongside the big names as a top source for aromatic, mineral and racy Meursault. (No coarse, heavy, fat wines here!).
Take a look at Burghound and Tanzer and you will find Latour-Giraud always has wines in the top ten. There are some well known names, that sell for much more money, scored considerably lower.
His 2013 Meursaults are spectacular. The Charmes is equal top wine for the vintage and the Genevrieres is equal second top - beaten only by another cuvee from the Latour-Giraud stables!
If you haven't tried these wines you really should. They outscore well-known names like Roulot, Lafon, Colin-Morey and many more. We have them on special for the next few days saving you 15%. And that makes them wonderful value compared to these other makers.
Meursault 1er Cru Genevrieres 2013
Normal Price $189.00
36 bottles available
Burghound's equal second top Meursault Genevrieres of the vintage. Same score as
Coche-Dury and Boillot. The #1 wine was Latour-Giraud's Cuvee des Pierre!
Burghound: (from 40+ year old vines from a huge 2.5 ha parcel in Genevrières Dessus). Like several of the wines in the range in 2013 this is distinctly restrained where the aromas of white and yellow orchard fruit, acacia blossom and jasmine tea are subtly marked by a certain exoticism. The equally restrained middle weight flavors brim with both ample minerality and plenty of dry extract that really coat the palate yet the balanced finish is notably dry with terrific intensity and persistence. This is a knockout and well-worth investigating. A Sweet Spot Wine. 93 Points
Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2013
Normal Price $189.00
37 bottles available
Burghound's equal top Meursault Charmes of the vintage with Anton Jobard. Both scored 93. Outscored Roulet, Colin-Morey and everyone else!
Burghound: (from 35+ year old vines in Charmes du Haut). This is the first wine to display any appreciable amount of reduction though in this case it's sufficiently prominent to warrant a good aeration if you're tempted to crack a bottle in the wine's youth. On the plus side though there is a lovely freshness and punch to the more refined yet still generous medium-bodied flavors that exude more evident minerality on the layered, textured and mouth coating finish that delivers very fine length as well as excellent depth. This beauty is packed with upside development potential though note well that it is very much of a baby and would best be held for at least 3 to 5 years first. A Sweet Spot Wine. 93 Points
