Domaine Taupenot-Merme is 8 generation old. They cultivate 13 hectares of vines spread across 20 appellations in the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune.
Burghound says of the domaine, "The wines are generally built on a base of finesse rather than power and are both transparent and very pinot. I like the wines as they are understated and never tiring to drink and if not wines of drama or muscle, they always comport themselves well at the table, which is to say classic in character and style."
Mazoyeres is part of Charmes-Chambertin. The wine can be labelled as Charmes but numerous producers choose to label it Mazoyeres as they feel this parcel is superior. They say the stony soil creates a more refined and complex wine.
We have the last 45 bottles of the Grand Cru Mazoyeres-Chambertin from 2006 and 2007.
From the cellars of Domaine Taupenot-Merme we have the last 45 bottles of the Grand Cru Mazoyeres-Chambertin from 2006 and 2007. These wines are less than half the price of the current release! Remarkable after almost ten years of cellaring! Both wines drink very well.

Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru 2006
Special $175.00

Burghound: As is virtually always the case, this is bigger and more robust though at the price of less elegance with a much earthier and more obviously sauvage character on the red and dark berry fruit nose that introduces rich, full and more serious big-bodied flavors underpinned by more robust and rustic tannins though not any more depth or length. A qualitative choice that favors ever so slightly the Mazoyères but note that the respective characters are miles apart. 92 Points

Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru 2007
Special $175.00

Burghound: Classic ruby. A pretty red and dark berry fruit nose cut with ample animale, underbrush, leather and jerky notes as well as notably more earth influence that continues onto the more obviously classic Gevrey character as there is a robust and muscular quality to the borderline rustic flavors that culminate in a powerful and punchy finish of much better than average length. In 2007, the Charmes and Mazoyères line up the way their terroir profiles would have it as the Charmes is elegant and refined and the Maz is robust and borderline rustic. However in this particular case, there is just more underlying raw material that gives the Maz a slight edge in quality.
