2014 White Burgundies....
"These are truly magnificent whites ... the purity and delicacy of the 2014s is quite unique...Classic white Burgundies in the best sense." winehog.org
Burghound Issue 63, June 2016: "So, as with every vintage, the two questions that take precedence over everything else always are: Should I buy the wines and if so, how much of them? The answer to those questions are yes, you should buy the 2014s and secondly, while personal preferences and circumstances always dictate the quantities purchased, I would suggest not only buying but buying aggressively.....I make this recommendation for several reasons: the first is that 2014 is an excellent vintage, if not a genuinely great one, and importantly it's excellent from top to bottom. The second is that 2015, while a perfectly good vintage, appears to have produced less interesting whites than did 2014. Thirdly, while it is still too early in terms of wine quality, we already know that there won't be much volume in 2016. That means that both the 2015s and the 2016s are going to be expensive and potentially less good than the 2014s available today. And the fourth reason is that there is nothing to suggest that 2017 is going to be any better for either quality or quantity so if your cellar needs replenishing, 2014 is what is on the table and it is unquestionably a good one." "As to the style of the 2014s, they are classic middle weight white burgs that possess excellent freshness, solid but not high alcohols and acidities along with terrific transparency to the underlying terroir. They are also exceptionally refreshing and energetic which just makes them fun to drink as one sip invites the next. As was the case with the 2013s at the same stage, you will consistently see the descriptors "citrus, citrusy, lemon zest, etc." used to convey my impressions of the wines because the supporting acidities regularly have these characteristics. Indeed this aspect often carries over to the finishes as it is not uncommon to note hints of bitter lemon. Finally, the 2014s are quite finely balanced as they combine reasonably good levels of dry extract that generally does a fine job of buffering the moderately firm acidities. As such they should be approachable young but should reward mid-term cellaring. Certainly some 2014s are built for longer-term cellaring but as a general proposition I would suggest that 10 years will see most wines at their peaks, even at the grand cru level."
Burghound's reviews of the 2014 White Burgs were published yesterday. They confirm my opinion that 2014 is one of the great vintages for White Burgundy.
It has been exciting to follow the path of Domaine Latour-Giraud over recent years. This Domaine, run by Jean-Pierre Latour, has risen to the top echelon and now rates alongside the big names as a top source for aromatic, mineral and racy Meursault. (No coarse, heavy, fat wines here!).
We have a small amount of 2014 still available but you will need to be very quick!

(from 35+ year old vines in Charmes Dessus). There is just enough post-bottling reduction present to warrant decanting this if you're tempted to try a bottle of this beauty young. Otherwise there is almost painful intensity to the succulent and dense medium-bodied flavors that exude a subtle minerality onto the sappy, chiseled and hugely long finale. This impeccably balanced effort is also clearly built-to-age and like the Poruzots is going to need it. In short, this is a great Charmes and worthy of your interest. 94 Points

Burghound:There is sufficient post-bottling reduction present to completely mask the underlying fruit at the moment. Otherwise there is superb volume and mid-palate concentration to the impressively powerful and palate staining yet refined medium weight plus flavors that possess a highly textured mouth feel while delivering knock-out depth and length on the hugely long and beautifully well-balanced finale. Like several of the wines in the range and most particularly the Genevrières this stunningly good effort should both age well and be approachable young. 95 Points

Vinous, Stephen Tanzer:
Green-tinged yellow. Aromas of lemon oil and stone fruits accented by crushed herbs. Very rich and sweet but with vibrant acidity (4.6 g/l) to balance the wine's sucrosité. Pure stone fruit flavors are extended on the echoing finish by racy minerality. 91-93 Points
