Burghound: "quality at this domaine has skyrocketed over the past few vintages...."

Domaine Felettig are rapidly gaining superstar status. This small domaine is in great demand for their serious and stylish wines that punch well above their weight yet are still keenly priced. Not only is Burghound enthusiastic but John Gilman is raving about the domaine....

John Gilman, A View from the Cellar says "Gilbert Felettig has fashioned truly exceptional 2013s and he is clearly reaching a new
level in his career....the entire cellar was absolutely singing and was the finest range of wines I have yet tasted from this up and coming estate. Monsieur Felettig has made a few changes over
the years in his cellar protocol, with the most important being his rearrangement of the chais and cellars to no longer need to pump the wines, as everything can now flow by gravity. The 2013 vintage saw a further change in his approach in the cellars, as this is the first vintage that he has decided to bottle without filtration, and the wines seem even more precise and transparent as a result. I am clearly not the only one who has been impressed by the range of
2013s here, as Gilbert Felettig commented "that since the 2006 vintage, 2013 is my favorite vintage for our wines." The domaine has a great range of premier crus, particularly in Chambolle-Musigny, but what really stood out this year was just how deep and serious the village wines are here in 2013, most of which are clearly of premier cru quality and will age long and gracefully. They should most emphatically not be ignored by Chambolle lovers looking for any of the premier crus! I have had the sense that the future looked very promising at Domaine Felettig ever since I tasted my first bottle of their wine here in New York a few years ago, and with the 2013 vintage, the future has most definitely arrived at this lovely estate and Gilbert Felettig is now clearly one of the superstars in the village of Chambolle-Musigny. This was one of the most exciting visits of my entire trip to France in April of this year, and I visited  some rather impressive addresses in both Burgundy and Champagne!"

Much to my surprise I discovered that we have a small cache of the Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny from the domaine in our warehouse. I've put them on Special less 15%. They are super wines. Check out Gilman's drink by dates - these are serious Villages bottlings!

John Gilman, A View for the Cellar: The 2013 Nuits AC from Gilbert Felettig is also outstanding and utterly classic in profile, wafting from the glass in a red fruity blend of cherries, pomegranate, a lovely base of soil, a bit of gamebird, nutskin, woodsmoke and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure on the attack, with a rock solid core, fine soil signature, fine-grained tannins and lovely length and grip on the vibrant and still quite youthful finish. This will be excellent in six or seven years and should age very well indeed. 2021-2050. 90 Points

Chambolle-Musigny 2013
Normally $113.95
Special $96.95

Felettig Chambolle John Gilman, A View for the Cellar:
The 2013 Chambolle villages bottling chez Felettig was absolutely singing at the time of my visit, jumping from the glass in a classic mélange of cherries, red plums, chalky soil tones, gamebirds, violets and a stylish framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is fullish, very pure on the attack and sappy at the core, with lovely focus and grip, moderate tannins and 112 outstanding balance on the long, tangy and complex finish. All this lovely Chambolle AC needs is four or five years in the cellar to fully blossom. 2019-2040+. 89+ Points

Duroche 2013 Label
Domaine Duroche 2013 6-Bottle Tasting Pack
Only 3 Left
A generational change in Burgundy can make an incredible difference. A new combination of tradition and modern know-how can, almost overnight, rocket a domaine to stardom.

Domaine Duroche certainly fit into that category. This tiny producer has just 8.25 hectares of vines, but boy do they have some great vineyards. All that was needed was exceptional care in the vineyard and great winemaking. Now, we have them both and the results are tremendous.

Tim Atkin MW rates the domaine in his Top 25 alongside DRC, Rousseau, Leroy, Georges Roumier and other legends. It is a great achievement.

We have a tiny amout of wine from our 2013 allocation left. Being another tiny vintage the quantities were small to start with I have made the wines into 6-Packs comprising 1 bottle each of:

Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Etelois
Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux
Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St-Jacques

The wines, particularly the Premier Crus, have been extremely well scored by Tim Atkin MW. The Lavaux St-Jacques was scored 96, the Estournelles St-Jacques 95 and Les Champeaux 93 (and Aux Etelois, a lieu-dit, was scored 94!)!
