Rare and Special Wines of the Clos du Chateau d'Isenbourg

An unique property in the fairy tale land
that is Alsace

Disenbourg_terrasses_bottle The history of Château Isenbourg is nothing if not dramatic. It is based in the commune of Rouffach, 8km south of Colmar in the Haut-Rhin district of Alsace. The name 'Isenbourg' has more than one possible origin: either from Eisenburg - 'the iron castle', or from Isisburg - 'the castle of Isis', the Egyptian goddess also venerated by the Romans. The area has indeed been occupied since Roman times, and some remnants suggest dedication to vine growing since then.

After a tumultuous journey through the centuries the chateau and its holdings were sold in 1974. Management of the vines and winemaking is handled by the team at Dopff and Irion.
The domaine is very special as it is the only Chateau with a Clos (walled vineyard) in Alsace. Production is very small at between 1250 and 1700 cases a year across all styles. Due to the tiny volumes produced of each wine, particular care and attention to detail is required.

We have an informative brochure on the domaine, its wines and many international awards.

The awards include the Riedel Japan Trophy for Best White Wine of the World 2012 - for the 2010 Les Tourelles (only $37.50 a bottle!).

If you are a fan of Alsatian wines I think you will find these wines very interesting. The story accompanying them is quite wonderful too.
