A top Grand Cru at a very reasonable price...

The beginnings of Domaine Drouhin-Laroze date back to 1850 when Jean-Baptiste Laroze purchased the first vines in Gevrey-Chambertin. In 1919 Suzanne, his granddaughter married Alexandre Drouhin who owned vines in Chambolle-Musigny and the Domaine Drouhin-Laroze was created.
Today, the sixth generation is in charge of 11.5 hectares of vines spread across some prestigious sites in the Cote de Nuits including the Grand Crus Chambertin Clos de Beze, Bonnes-Mares, Clos Vougeot, Latriceres-Chambertin and Chapelle-Chambertin. There are also some very handy Premier Crus from Gevrey-Chambertin.
We feature the jewel in Drouhin-Laroze's crown today - the Chambertin Clos de Beze. A majestic wine at a tremendous price for this top vineyard.

Tim Atkin MW:  Some Clos de Bèze wines can be closed and unapproachable in their youth, but this isn't one of them. It's another complex, nuanced, all-too-drinkable Grand Cru from Caroline Drouhin. Fine tannins, notes of fresh tobacco and red cherry and strawberry fruit underscored by minerality. 2019-25. 96 Points

Burghound: (from a parcel of 1.5 ha of vines planted in 1949; made with 25% whole clusters). Moderate wood frames exuberantly spicy and fresh red and dark berry fruit that carries ample Gevrey-style earth and underbrush influences. There is good size, weight and volume to the admirably intense broad-shouldered flavors that evidence a light minerality on the impressively long but not really austere finish. This is a big but harmonious effort that should age gracefully for years to come though note that it will likely need at least 10. 2029+. 91-93 Points. A great review - I don't quite understand the score.

2014 Red Burgundy
A seriously good vintage
Burghound says "As I observed at the very beginning of the 2014 vintage summary, the best wines are wonderfully refreshing, highly drinkable and transparent medium-bodied wines that possess solid but not aggressive tannic spines supplemented by sufficient but not high acidities. They are balanced wines built for medium-term aging yet should be reasonably approachable young if youthful fruit is your preference." "Two of the aspects that I like best about the 2014s is their transparency to the underlying terroir coupled with their sheer drinkability. This transparency is enhanced by terrific vibrancy because the wines really do taste alive in the mouth as they've got energy, or what I like to call underlying tension. They're ripe yet they are what the French call digest, or refreshing, where the first sip invites the next which is in fact what makes them so drinkable."
We have a terrific range of 2014 Red Burgundies available at all levels.
