Quality Chateauneuf-du-Pape for less than $60 a bottle. That is a bargain!

We are always on the lookout for quality French wine at tremendous prices. With the dollar weak and demand high it is becoming more and more difficult.
Not long ago we were offered the distribution of Chateau Mont-Thabor, a small producer in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The domaine sent samples which I tasted along with some clients and I am pleased to say I was very impressed. These are old-style Chateauneufs in the very best sense. The domaine makes only one cuvee from a blend of 80% 80-year-old Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre and Cinsault. The grapes are not destemmed and the wine is aged in 2/3 old oak and 1/3 tank before bottling. It you love full throttle Chateauneufs these are not for you. But if you fancy the traditional style which is lower in alcohol and much more elegant these are wines that will delight.
And we did say the wines are a bargain? With a little arm twisting we are able to offer the 2012 and 2013 Chateauneuf-du-Pape at incredible introductory prices of just $59.95 a Bottle. If you buy a Case you will save even more.

Remember these are not big Parker wines. Read the reviews to get a feel for the wines. My preference was for slightly for the 2013 wine when we tasted the samples a week ago.

Wine Advocate - Jeb Dunnuck: An outstanding effort, Mont Thabor's 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape shows the purity of the vintage, with classic blackberry, mulberry, garrigue and hints of leather giving way to a medium to full-bodied, supple, elegant profile on the palate. Possessing solid concentration, fine tannin and excellent length, it should drink nicely for just under a decade. 91 Points

Vinous - Josh Raynolds: Inky ruby. A wild smoke- and spice-accented nose displays scents of dried cherry, cassis and cured meat. Chewy, deeply pitched black and blue fruit flavors show a gamey quality and pick up hints of licorice and black pepper with air. Gains sweetness with air and finishes long and smoky, with a lingering gamey quality and gentle tannins. Distinctly Old World in style, this is the sort of wine that makes me think of braised lamb or venison. 88-90 Points
