Red and White 100-Point wines
Now that is something!
Hermitage Ex-Voto represents the fulfillment of a longtime dream of Guigal's to own his own vineyards on the hill of Hermitage. Through the purchase of the de Vallouit and J. L. Grippat domaines in 2000, Guigal acquired four vineyard parcels on this legendary site. The 2001 vintage was the first release of this estate-bottled Hermitage red and white.
The red comes from Bessards (30%), Greffieux (30%), L'Hermite (20%), and Murets (20%), and spends a full 42 months in new casks and is bottled without fining or filtration. The white comes from Murets (90%) and L'Hermite (10%). It spends 30 months in 100% new oak. These cuvées are produced only in exceptional vintages. This represents the pinnacle of the appellation, with exceptional concentration and great potential longevity.
Quite remarkably both the Red and White 2010 Ex-Voto have been scored 100-Points by Robert Parker! These are wines every Rhone devotee should have in their cellar.
Guigal Hermitage Ex-Voto Blanc 2010
$675.00 Per Bottle
Bottled in February of this year, after spending 30 months in new oak barrels, the 2010 Ermitage Ex-Voto Blanc is absolutely heavenly stuff! Comprised of 90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne, this incredible white boasts massive aromatics of white currants, white peach, flowers, licorice, sauteed nuts and brioche, as well as a striking minerality that comes out with additional time in the glass. Coming from the oldest vines in Hermitage, it is a full-bodied, incredibly concentrated effort that builds on the palate and through the finish, yet stays fresh, elegant and lively, without ever being over the top. One of the greatest white wines I was able to taste during my trip through the region, this beauty should either be consumed in the coming 4-6 years, or forgotten for 20. 100 Points
Guigal Hermitage Ex-Voto Rouge 2010
$675.00 Per Bottle
Wine Advocate: At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the 2010 Hermitage Ex Voto is as good as it gets. Following some of the most concentrated, rich Cote Roties ever made, it still ratcheted up the concentration level with its massive, palate saturating levels of gamey dark fruits, cassis, licorice, chocolate, graphite and powdered rock. It this beauty doesn't make fireworks go off in your head, I don't know what will. Full-bodied, deeply concentrated and structured, yet also fine, elegant and delineated, it is nothing short of incredible. Give this awesome Hermitage 5-6 years in the cellar and feel free to drink it anytime over the following 4-5 decades. 100 Points
