Grand Cru Whites from Faiveley - and don't forget the Reds!‏

Faiveley Whites Header
"This is surely one of Burgundy's most intriguing names - the Welcome Bastard Montrachet" - Jasper Morris
Todays we present a selection of Grand Cru whites from Faiveley including the hard-to-find Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet.

Faiveley Bienvenues Label The Batard-Montrachet portion of the vineyard's name is reported to be a reference to the illegitimate (bastard) son of a local lord (the Chevalier-Montrachet) after whom the vineyard is named. Bienvenue means 'welcome' and is derived from the fact that the site is the most direct entry point to the Grand Cru vineyards from the village of Puligny.
The vineyard lies at the bottom right corner of Batard-Montrachet, wholly within Puligny-Montrachet. It is a small vineyard of only 3.68 hectares and whilst there are a number of makers it is seldom seen due to the small quantities produced. Faiveley's wine comes from a 0.51 ha holding.

The soils are a deep brown limestone with more clay at the foot of the slope. The wines are well structured and harmonious while firm, dry and caressing.
There is no argument that the Grands Crus of Montrachet are the finest expression of the Chardonnay grape anywhere on earth!

We have small quantities of 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet available. We also have a little of the very popular Faiveley Corton-Charlemagne.

If you love serious Grand Cru White Burgundy you should take a look at these wines.
