Domaine du Vieux Telegraph Chateaneuf-du-Pape La Crau 2012‏

Vieux Telegraph 2012 Header
"...suave and seamless, boasting striking purity..."
Domaine Vieux Telegraphe derives its name from a 1792 telegraph station that once stood on the hill where the domaine now stands. The history of the domaine begins in 1898 when Hippolyte Brunier planted vines on the plateau of La Crau on the eastern side of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. By 1900 Vieux Telegraphe was bottling it own wine.

Today the estate comprises 60.5 ha of vineyards which, quite unusually, are a single parcel, all in the lieu-dit of La Crau. Here the ground is covered with medium to large stones.

Vieux Telegraphe is made from a blend of approximtaly 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault with bits and pieces of other varieties mixed in. It is a traditional Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the very best sense.

Today we feature the new 2007 Riesling Cuvee Frederic Emile. With less than 1 grams of residual sugar and almost 8 grams of acidity this is the driest version of this wine ever produced. A classic in the making!

We offer the new 2012 vintage is three formats. Please note the Magnums are very limited.

Wine Spectator:
Rock-solid, with a hefty core of fig, blackberry and black cherry fruit, wrapped in chestnut and tobacco leaf notes and carrying through a lavender-and tar-framed finish. Dense and grippy, showing a slightly old-school shading. Should cellar well. Best from 2016 through 2030.

Vinous Media - Josh Raynolds:
Opaque ruby. An intensely perfumed bouquet evokes spicy dark berries and potpourri, with zesty mineral and incense qualities adding complexity. Pliant boysenberry and candied lavender flavors are impressively fresh and focused, with a hint of licorice adding depth. Closes sweet, supple and broad, with resonating spiciness and gentle tannins that add shape and grip. 93 Points
