Two 1959 Burgundies from Original Cases. 1990 Romanee-St-Vivant‏

1959 Burgundy

At the time hailed as the "Vintage of the Century" 1959 rarely fails to live up to its lofty reputation...

A vintage of both quantity and quality, the 1959's from Burgundy with their deep colour and rich fruit are exceptional drinking at 55 years of age!

It is a vintage I like a lot and one that seldom disappoints.

Some time ago we purchased two original cases of 1959 Burgundy from Corton and Nuits-St-Georges. Both communes are known for their ability to age for many decades, no doubt a result of their tannin structure.

This is a rare opportunity to purchase serious old Burgundy from a great vintage. Be quick, these wines will not last.

1959 Corton Bressandes Grand Cru Le Heretiers d'Hippolyte Thevenot

$599.00 a Bottle (3 available)

Part of the Antonin Guyon domaine. Bressandes is one of the finest Corton Grand Cru vineyards and makes up more than a half of DRC's Red Corton. A Grand Cru bargain.

1959 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles Morin Pere and Fils

$395.00 a bottle (2 available)

Another maker whom has provided many great bottles of Burgundy over the years. Cailles is an excellent vineyard, just behind Les St Georges in reputation. It is also considered a Grand Cru candidate.

Louis Latour RSV

Louis Latour Romanee-St-Vivant 1990

Louis Latour is the third largest land owner in Romanee-St-Vivant with 0.76 hectares. The land was purchased in 1898 and the holding is in the southwest of RSV a few metres from DRC's vineyard.

A Journaux is an old Burgundian measurement corresponding to approximately 0.4 hectares. The Latours originally purchased the entire p;lot but sold off around half over the years.

We have 2 well cellared bottles of their 1990 RSV Les Quatre Journaux available.

It is ridiculous that an aged wines from a great vintage like 1990 is less than the current release.
