Domaine Georges Lignier 2013's - Well reviewed and still good value

Last Chance to secure the full range of Grand Crus

Domaine Georges Lignier was one of our first Burgundian domaines and is still one of our most popular. The wines of today, made by Benoit Stehly, the nephew of Georges, are aromatic and wonderfully supple in a classic style. That is not to say light, simply that the nuances and character of the vineyards are allowed to shine above extractive winemaking and heavy oak handling.

Fans of Lignier and Red Burgundy in general should take a good look at these wonderful wines. The Clos St-Denis, the cheapest of the Grand Crus, is a real winner in 2013. It has been brilliantly reviewed and we currently have it available in bottle and magnum. But make sure you don't miss the full range!

My pick of the Lignier basket, this is so pure and with trade mark, ripe, raspberry juice and cherry notes. Though 2 of the 4 barrels are new, this is hardly touched by raw wood flavours or too much vanilla and spice. There is power and elegance in the same glass. The Morey, Clos des Ormes and this Clos St Denis are contiguous and give the best impression of the domaine. Difficult to resist all three! 2022 to 2031

Castagnier Morey

Wonderful Morey "Villages"

When each new container arrives I like to taste through the wines and check everything is as it should be.

The 2011's from Domaine Castagnier arrived recently and I have been diligently sampling them all.

The wines are absolutely classic and true to their appellations.

As is often the case there is a little surprise to be had and in the case of the Castagniers I have tasted so far the Morey-St-Denis is one such wine.

Tiny holdings and the small 2013 crop meant that Castagnier had to declassify his 1er Cru Morey vineyards as he simply did not have enough grapes to make all the possible cuvees.

So the villages Morey contains grapes primarily from the 1er Cru vineyard of Aux Cheseaux. The result is a stunner that looks every bit Premier Cru.

We have only 19 bottles left that which we offer today at the original Pre Arrival Price of

Just $74.00

Darren Harris: Multi-layer nose of roses, plums and spice. The wine fans across the palate revealing layers of fruit, spice, liquorice. It is intense and pure with delightful balance and depth. The preponderance of Premier Cru fruit in this wine is really obvious. Serious quality. A delight to drink.
