First Growth Rose from Provence!

The Chateau du Galoupet is an old domaine. It was officially mentioned on the first map of France during the reign of Louis XIV (1638-1715). Today is comprises over 160 hectares of which almost half are planted to vines.

Galoupet Rose Bottle Wine has been made in provence for over 2,600 years. Today, the area is mostly know for its Roses, which are often considered the finest in the world.

In 1955 Provence became the only wine region outside of Bordeaux to develop a rating classification for its estates. Chateau du Galoupet was one of only 14 estates to be granted the extremely privileged designation "Cru Classe" (since increased to 18). The rating was based on the estates' history, winemaking and cellar reputation, and overall vineyard quality.

Located by the sea, the Chateau is surrounded by a luxurious Mediterranean flora of palmtrees, citrus trees, eucalyptus and oleanders is set on a foundation of metamorphic rocks and the exposure is such as to enable optimum ripening of grapes. This factor, associated with the excellent choice of grape varieties used, gives softness and fruitiness to the wines. Winemaking, ageing and bottling are carried out in the cellars.

Over the last few years I have been asked by many clients to add a Rose to our portfolio. Over that period I have tasted many different, but have rarely been impressed. That is until I was shown Chateau de Galoupe Cotes de Provence Cru Classe Rose.

The current vintage (2013) is a blend of 45% Cinsault, 40% Grenache and 5% each Syrah, Mourvedre and Tibournen. The style is savoury and mineral, with lovely balance, avoiding the sweetness that plagues many roses. It is a super example.

The wine is now in stock. For a limited time we offer a 15% Summer Discount. And for unbroken Cases of 12 Bottles we increase this discount to 20%.

This is no ordinary Rose, Chateau de Galoupet appears on the wines lists of prestigious restaurants worldwide.

Galoupet Label Wine Enthusiast: Soft and lightly fruity, it has flavors of bitter almonds as well as red fruits. This gives the wine a firm character with some tannins and a mineral texture. Wait until late 2014 before drinking.

Wine Spectator: A brisk, stony style, with lovely tea, melon rind, savory, talc and wet stone notes. Displays range while remaining high-pitched and graceful. Shows good cut through the finish.

Gourt de Mautens Label

A Rose of a Different Colour!

Domaine Gourt de Mautens is the insider's address in the southern Rhone, incomparable organic wines that have few peers in France, let alone the world.

France's leading wine critics, Bettane and Desseauve, have already placed winemaker Jérôme Bressy among the great winemakers of the region, such as Henri Bonneau and the late Jacques Reynaud of Chateau Rayas. The parallels certainly exist -all these artisans share a fanatical dedication to very low yields and a creative eccentricity that could be called madness, or genius, or both.

Each year the domaine produces a Rose from a blend of Grenache, Carignan, Mourvedre and Counoise cropped at an incredibly low 10 to 15 hl/ha.

The result is a Rose of extraordinary complexity and interest with complex nuances across a very broad spectrum.

These wines are Rare and not inexpensive but I do think it is a wine all serious wine-lovers should taste at least once.

We have a few bottles each of the 2010 and 2011 in stock.

Normally $99.95 a Bottle
