Maltroye's 1er Cru La Dent de Chien is one of the greatest wines in our portfolio. It may say Premier Cru on the label but what comes out of the bottle is without question Grand Cru quality.
But with a string of small vintages this wine, along with all of the best wines of Burgundy, has gone through the roof.
This week I received pricing for the 2013 Chateau de la Maltroye wines. If I was to add a regular margin the 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Dent de Chien would be $383.00! Wow!
We have 29 bottles of the magnificent 2011 in stock. 2011 white Burgundies are much admired by the trade and this wine is no exception. And at the moment you can buy the wine at a very special price which works out at half the theoretical landed price of the 2013! That is value!
Chateau de la Maltroye Chasagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Dent de Chien 2011
Special Only $191.25
To be honest I thought I was drinking the 2010! The nose opens with incredible power: flowers, minerals and complexing sulphides, There are white peaches, a little oak and everything is tightly wound. This is a thoroughbred!
There is a huge depth of extract on the palate. Correctly ripe fruit with a steely frame. Closed and structured but oh, so good. You can taste the potential. An incredibly long finish that is vibrant and mineral.
Burghound says of the 2010 "akin to a block of stone at present but the potential is genuinely stunning and it's rare for a 1er to achieve this level of quality" and I feel this applies equally to the 2011.
This wine will outperform many famous name Grand Crus again.
If you have not tasted this vineyard you really should. It could very well change your perspective on just how good Premier Cru White Burgundy can be.
