Ravaut 1999 Grand Crus

1999 - The Best Red Burgundy Vintage for 50 Years?

1999 is considered by many Burgundy lovers to be the best vintage of the last 50 years. In fact some would say you have to go back to the glorious post-war trio of 1945, 1947 and 1949 to find find a vintage universally as good.

Certainly it rates up there with 2010, 2005 and 1978 as an all-time classic.

So when the opportunity to purchase some domaine-aged Grand Crus Reds from 1999 was made we snapped them up.

Those of you who are fortunate enough to have 1999's in their cellar will know how good the vintage is. The wines are still deeply coloured, with structure and fruit. There is absolutely no rush to drink them.

We present two Corton Grand Cru Reds from Domaine Gaston and Pierre Ravaut. These wines are from their reserve stock and have never left the cellars. The condition is impeccable. You are not buying wines that have been around the traps, in and out of auction, travelled to Queensland and back in summer, and that have sat on a retailer's shelves for twelve months. These are straight from the source and will be shipped to Australia in a refrigerated container. I can't stress enough what a difference this can make.

And the best thing is the price. A string of small vintages has put pressure on most Burgundy domaines and the result is some great buying for consumers as they dig into their "insurance policy" of ages vintages.

We have priced the wine to sell quickly. So instead of our usual 15% Pre Arrival Discount we offer 20%. If you buy an unbroken case of a particular wine we'll increase the discount to 25%! Everyone is a winner!

Corton Les Bressandes Grand Cru 1999

Normally $199.95

Pre Arrival $159.95

Case of 12 Bottles $1799.55 (=$149.96 a Bottle)

Ravaut Bressandes Label

Bressandes is one of the great vineyards of Corton. The fruit style is a little redder than in Clos du Roi with game and spice and a mineral tang on the finish.
It is a long-lived wine (most Corton Grand Crus are) with firm but supple tannins.

Cheaper than the current vintage which is ludicrous.

Corton Hautes Mourottes Grand Cru 1999

Normally $199.95

Pre Arrival $159.95

Case of 12 Bottles $1799.55 (=$149.96 a Bottle)

Ravaut Murottes Hautes Mourottes is high on the Corton hill above Ladoix. It is quite cool with a higher than usual clay component over white marl that ensure a firm structured wine. There are not a lot of owners and the wine is seldom seen. Classic in style - patience is required.

Once again cheaper than the current vintage! Crazy!
