Every now and then I try a wine that leaves a lasting impression. Late last week I opened a bottle of the 2012 Chambolle-Musigny from Domaine Felettig and was blown away.
I have a mental picture of what Chambolle-Musigny should taste like but it all too often fails to deliver. This bottle certainly didn't!
This wine was deeply coloured and very vibrant. The nuances exploding from the glass were absolutely classic - red and black fruits all sorts of subtle undertones. The palate had exceptional mid palate strength, mineral notes and was balanced by fine finishing acidity. The wine was delicious and so very Chambolle.
A couple of thoughts sprang to me whilst drinking this wine. Firstly, how many Premier Crus would this outperform? And secondly, how did this deeply coloured wine manage to taste so much more Chambolle than similarly coloured wines from one of the big producers? (Who also charges much more).
If you spend some time on the internet you will find Domaine Felettig receiving praise from drinkers and fellow winemakers. They really is a producer to watch.
We have 40 bottles of this wonderful Chambolle-Musigny left. For the next few days, or until sold out, we'll introduce you to this wine with a 15% discount.
Domaine Felettig Chambolle-Musigny 2012
FJW: medium dark red w vibrant "blueberry " tinge; excellent volume of fresh black, blue and red fruit notes with a distinct hint of cool menthol; generous attack of blue and red fruit flavours, lovely complexing touch of mineral, leads to a mid palate of generous weight and longish tasty finish supported by adequate acidity. These 12's are such crowd pleasers w their generous personalities. A beautiful drinkers vintage and most likely with sneaky age worthiness. I also have to note that I think this is a Domain doing great work across the board and their wines should not be missed.
