Surprisingly complex reds from Santenay and wonderful whites
Domaine Roger Belland is run by Roger and his daughter Julie. They are the fifth and sixth generations of the family to manage the domaine.
They cultivate an impressive 23 hectares of vines in the Cote de Beaune. When I first visited the domaine it was for their impressive White Burgundies including the classic Criots-Batard-Montrachet. What I also discovered was a range of reds from Santenay that are surprisingly deep and complex and won may fans amongst our clients for their complexity and value.
Today we present the 2012 Reds and Whites from DOmaine Roger Belland. White Burgundy buyers will be interested to know that the domaine uses DIAM closures.
The 2012 vintage has provided many wonderful wines. The reds have structure and style with a little more fruit than 2010. There is richness with true Burgundian style and a clear expression of the terroir. The whites also have a richness with purity and power with plenty of attack. The biggest problem with 2012 is the small quantity versus the high quality.
