Rouge-Bleu Mistral 2011 Review A couple of years ago the domaine was purchased by Caroline Jones and her partner Thomas Bertrand. Caroline is from Western Australia and Thomas is from the Vosges mountains in France. They have continued the tradition begun by Jean-Marc Espinnase including organic practices in the vineyards.

Caroline and Thomas were delighted to receive an exceptional review from the Houston Chronicle for the 2011 Mistral. The review is reproduced alongside (click the image to enlarge).

Rouge-Bleu Mistral Made from 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 3% Mouvedre and 2% Rousanne it is an interesting and powerful blend. With the exception of the Syrah, the vines are 75 years old. 50% of the wine is aged in barrels of 3-5 years to add structure.

Direct, featuring a good core of plum and blackberry fruit, studded with toasted spice and bramble hints. A flicker of mesquite appears on the finish. Wine Spectator: Ruby purple colour, on the nose black fruits spices liquorice and mint. Good concentration on the palate, chewy tannins and a finish following through from the nose.

Rouge-Bleu Lunatique 100% 80-100 Year old Grenache. No destemming, fermented in traditional concrete tanks. Aged in French oak for 16 months. Only 1200 bottles produced. A favourite amongst lovers of pure Grenache.

A burly style, with dark licorice, roasted plum, smoldering tobacco and charcoal notes, all backed by plum skin and tar on the finish. Features a slightly sinewy structure, but shows enough flesh for balance and should settle in with modest cellaring" Wine Spectator: Deep garnet, intense nose evoking notes of forest floor, spices and cooked red fruit. Mouth fillling with a good structure, freshness and minerality. Lots of character.

Last 28 Bottles of an Extremely Stylish 2011 1er Cru from

Les Bousselots is at the Vosne-Romanee end of Nuits-St-Georges. And like the other vineyards in that region it combines the flavours of Nuits fruit with the elegant structure and finesses of Vosne-Romanee.

I opened a bottle of this last night and was very impressed with the beauty of this wine. My original note written last year is spot on! This is one stylish wine from a maker you will hear more about!

Plums, currants and small fruit with a little stoney earth. Really very floral for this commune. Starts very fine but builds complexity in the mouth. Not a big wine but one with plenty of quality material on the palate. The tannins are extremely fine for NSG and the impression is very much one of elegance and style rather than weight and rustic character.

Quite lovely!

$85.95 a Bottle

Which is great value for a quality Premier Cru!
