Albert Bichot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux-St-Jacques 2010 (668)

France - Burgundy - Cote de Nuits - Gevrey-Chambertin
Pinot Noir

With a beautiful garnet red robe, this Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques has aromas of ripe fruit, jam, mild spices and leather, with a delicate touch of oak. The mouth is powerfully concentrated and robust, tannic and well-balanced with a lovely long finish.

A beautifully plush Burgundy, with a minerally, leathery perfume of wild strawberries and cream plus an exuberance of dark red fruit. Deveoping on the palate, with sweet and savoury notes, hints of leather and wood smoke, and enoughfruit to manage the tannins. A long finish and fine future.

This wine shows the structured side of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vineyard is situated at the opening of a small side valley, a location that allows the grapes to ripen slowly. This is elegant and structured, and it’s full of solid tannins as well as cherry and red berry flavors. Age this for 7–8 years.

Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report"

Here the nose offers up lots of high-toned interest. This is mouth-filling and shows some beautiful fruit, though it’s just tinged with a hint of reduction. I love the finish and the intensity with which the fruit is delivered. Very fine!.

Darren's Notes

Cherry, bitter dark chocolate nose. Voluminous wild strawberry, sous bois, hints of fresh leather and spice on the palate. Complex. Structured mouthfeel with fine grained tannin driving the wine and providing excellent length. Powerful mid palate fruit weight with menthol freshness and lift. Classic Gevrey in the vibrant, not so earthy end of the spectrum.
