Vinous Media - Neal MArtin

The 2019 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has an attractive lime-driven nose, touches of peach and nectarine coming through with aeration. The palate is waxy-textured on the entry, and touches of chamomile and chai tea complement the malic fruit. There’s ample weight and depth on the finish. Give this 3–4 years in bottle and it should turn into a fine Les Clos. (Drink between 2024-2044)

One parcel of 0.16 hectares. First vintage 2013 now on fermage.A fuller nose – fresher too despite still plenty of barrel references. Extra energy – the energy of Les Clos – the barrel with much lower visibility in this flavour. This is concentrated but never rich – you have energy and a fast-paced river of flavour. To wait for, for sure, but with much anticipation – bravo!

In barrel, as yet unracked. This will go to tank before the harvest and be bottled the following March. Pale colour, while the nose has gone slightly to sleep, not important in such a young wine. Brilliant intensity through the middle, opulent white fruit that is brought in to a more tightly controlled finish, but showing, some additional opulence this year, a little bit, softer than, sometimes. Not peachy though. Properly persistent. Tasted: July 2020
