Domaine du Clos Frantin Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Malconsorts 2019 (7030)

France - Burgundy - Cote de Nuits - Vosne-Romanee
Pinot Noir

Burghound: (from a large 1.76 ha parcel). Here too there is enough wood to notice but not to intrude on the exceptionally spicy and overtly floral-suffused nose of dark currant and plum. There is outstanding intensity, muscle and power to the broad-shouldered flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract on the sappy, mouth coating, robust and youthfully austere finish that goes on and on. This is excellent and worth checking out. 2037+. A Sweet Spot Wine. 92-94 Points

Neal Martin, Vinous: The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru was harvested on different days, as Bichot owns sites on varied soil profiles within the vineyard. Initially closed, it opens nicely to offer dark cherries, bergamot and tea leaf notes. The palate is very harmonious with good backbone, grippy tart red fruit and a mineral-driven, quite sturdy finish. Excellent. 92-94 Points

Jasper Morris MW: Very dense vibrant purple. Spending time on the nose, which shows some class, but it is the power, which kicks in, the sort of lively cherries, which can come with whole bunch. Really fine sensual finish, very long too. Shows the value of this terroir. 93-96 Points

Professional Reviews

Sarah Marsh MW "The Burgundy Briefing"

Complex aroma, with notes of ripe raspberries and ground coriander, which linger hauntingly and complete the palate. Lovely layering, for there are highlights, glimmerings, and deeper, darker undertones. It's richly textured. The tannins are certainly sophisticated, velvety, with taffeta crisp at the edges. It has a joyous energy and a lithe, strong and persistent finish. 2026-35.

Decanter World Wine Awards

It’s always a treat to taste a wine from Vosne, but our judges look at such wines against their peers, so they have to be good to make progress … and very good indeed to reach Best In Show. This deep, youthful Premier Cru Malconsorts thrilled every judge who tried it. Not only does it encapsulate the appeal of its village with its velvet-textured opulence and ample raspberry and black-cherry fruits, but its fleet-footed vivacity and deft yet firm structure underlines what a great vintage 2019 is. The wine is delicious now, but the potential of this vineyard which sits alongside La Tache is such that those with a chance to cellar a few bottles for their later years won’t regret it. Platinum Medal and Trophy for Best in Show.

International Wine Challenge 2021

Beautifully perfimed, Crushed raspberry, crunchy cranberry along with red morellos and red currants. Creamy spice with soft and supple palate. Long and persistent in the mouth with plush ripe tannins. Precisely balanced and joyous to drink now. Gold Medal
