France - Burgundy - Cote de Nuits - Flagey-Echezeaux
Pinot Noir

Platinum Medal and Best in Show Award at the 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards.

Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report: A little more colour but still clear at the rim. A deep, deep nose but freshly floral above. Fuller, but actually freshly mineral too. Very wide, slow waves of mouth-watering flavour in the finish – a different beast. Super.

International Wine Challenge 2020: Vibrant. Generous bouquet of morello cherries, violets and hints of toasted hazelnut. Succulent and supple on long palate. Complex, elegant and young. 95 Points and Gold Medal

Wine Enthusiast - Anne Krebiehl MW

Tentative hints of red currant and red cherry escape from this wine's shy nose. The palate adds hints of flinty reduction as well as subtle creaminess that cushions the firm stucture. Wonderful freshness highlights fine-boned tannins that are firm and filigreed in equal measure. A concentrated core radiates red-berry tartness and aroma heightened by the freshness of this svelte but well-cut wine.

Michael Apstein - WIne Review Online

Bichot’s Domaine du Clos Frantin owns two and a third acres in the lieu-dit of Champs Traversin from which they make a consistently spectacular Echézeaux. The 2018 is no exception. It isexplosive, yet not weighty. It delivers a touch of spice along with a plethora of subtle fruit flavors. Its understated power and suaveness are captivating. It’s my definition of Burgundy—flavor without weight.

It's always a treat to taste Grand Cru Burgundy, of course, and the challenge for our judges is not to be seduced by the vineyard names alone. There was no danger of that here: this young, dark Echezeaux is hugely impressive on every front, and left everyone who tasted it clamouring for more. Deep, resonant aromas of dark cherry, plum and damson draw you into the glass, while the flavours are round, vivacious and athletic, yet every bit as deep and sonorous as those paying for this appellation have the right to expect. The tannins are quietly expressed and, for the time being, subsumed beneath the wealth of fruit, but that essential support is there. It's astonishingly accessible now, but fruit of this quality will certainly ensure a sound ageing trajectory.
