Domaine de Suremain Mercurey 1er Cru En Sazenay Rouge 2018 (6521)

Domaine de Suremain Mercurey 1er Cru En Sazenay Rouge 2018 (6521)

France - Burgundy - Cote Chalonnaise - Mercurey
Pinot Noir

The red vines in En Sazenay are planted on a yellow marl with some well-drained gravels, quite high on the slope with cool winds ventilating the vineyard. It is often closed at the start, with an austere, pepper and spice aspect. With time En Sazenay opens to display great length in the mouth with aromas of brambles and blueberries. Cellar 5 to 10 years.

Deep ruby. On the nose there are dark fruits – plums and blueberries with spice and minerally earth. Very pleasing aromatics. The palate is structured and full with the generous, youthfully juicy fruit flavours buffered by a firm age-worthy finish. The wine is textured, detailed and precise and shows just how good Mercurey can be in the right hands. Easy to drink now with its fruit character but would appreciate at least a few years in the cellar to show it full potential.
